Re: Tyler Sash has died?

marcmorehouse ‏@marcmorehouse 2m2 minutes ago Iowa SID Steve Roe said ISU reached out with its idea to honor Tyler Sash. Iowa liked it and approved.

As somebody who follows ISU football, and has tickets to Cowboys games and cheers against the NYGiants, I didn't recall his name until somebody pointed out his interceptions against us. But I'm OK w/ ISU recognizing him during the game. It's the classy thing to do, whether UofI would have done the same for us or not. I hope we never have a situation where UofI is put in the same awkward position.

Stormin,

There's simply no way you're going to not look like an *** in the matter. If you really don't care one way or the other, you're not showing it.

they would have, and have done moments of silence for other teams and events. Frankly, I'd have been surprised if ISU didn't do something. I wouldn't expect a two hour special before the game or anything but I can't think of any stadium that wouldn't at least do a moment of silence for a recent former player of a team playing that day that died suddenly the week leading up to the event. People aren't as douchy as people posting on the internet would lead you to believe.

Re: Tyler Sash has died?

Very good gesture. Some things transcend sports and rivalries. It amazes me that some people (OK, maybe one from this thread anyway) have an issue with it.

Re: Tyler Sash has died?

i would assume that the fact Sash was an iowa native, he played against ISU three times, and he was recruited by ISU for both basketball and football plays into the decision.

Re: Tyler Sash has died?

Nice that we are recognizing Sash. I have no problem with it. What I have a problem with is some of our own Cyclone Family is not given any recognition that have suffered untimely deaths. Hopefully that is rectified.

I feel like it's almost disrespectful to do something for him before Iowa has the chance to. He died, like many other people have, without being a contributor to the institution that would be honoring him. If this happened to an ISU great the week of an Iowa game, I'd rather we honor him than them.

Sounds like Pollard has been in contact. IMO, it will be something more brief type of recogniztion. Maybe sometihing like a moment of silence and recognizing his family as guests of honor at the game. IMO, that would be okay. But I am guessing. And I agree that a full blown recognition should take place in his home stadium at Kinnick rather than at Jack Trice. I have been raked over the coals for expressing those thoughts and called lots of names. But so be it.

I'm kind of in the middle here. I do think Stormin has a point. I don't see the need to do recognitions for ex players of other schools at Jack Trice. Would we have done a recognition for say an ex Texas Tech player if Texas Tech was playing in Ames this weekend? I doubt it. No one would even give it a thought.

But then this is not TT. This is Iowa. Like it or not, little brother, big brother or twin brother- we have a closer day to day relationship with them than we do with other schools. Sash was an Iowa kid and this was a death that hit many of those that are going to be in the stands this Saturday- whether Hawkeye fans or Cyclone fans.

So in this case, yes, I do think something for Sash is the right way to go.

Re: Tyler Sash has died?

You can't honor every player that passes before every game, but in this case there needs to be a moment of silence or at least an announcement of the loss of a player/person. It was a rival player that passed the week of the game, not two months ago. It think it would be a shame to let this go without mentioning something.

Yes, I have no problem with it. But it is really just a timing issue. If this would have happened a month ago, I am sure we would not do anything. Week of the game, seems nice to show a little respect for an Iowan.

We honored Chris Street with the jersey for years and no one seemed to get too butthurt.

I have already pointed out that Chris Street was a PRESENT Player killed in a traffic accident......not a FORMER Player......5 years removed from being a member of the Iowa Football team. Not exactly apples to apples comparison there.

Nobody called you names. People just said that you look like an *** for how you were choosing to argue your view.

Not sure I am following your logic fail here. If we continued to honor Chris Street for years, we were honoring a FORMER player.
