Two missing girls

Been following this off and on. This is a sad day indeed. Not trying to belittle this at all, but what I think is interesting is the automatic assumption that this is murder. 30 years ago, I think the automatic assumption by most people would have been that it was some sort of accident that had happened. We go from assuming a non-violent tragedy to assuming murder, even though murder rates of children really have not increased in the past 30 years. (But every child murder that does happen gets near world-wide publicity. Maybe that's the answer right there)

facepalm

very sad day for everyone involved with this. being from the cedar falls area this hits pretty close to home. sad day for the state of Iowa.

I'd prefer he have his life stripped away from him... (and I'm pretty much as liberal as they get)

I disagree with this and not because I think the death penalty is cruel. I just believe that if I had a choice between life in prison and death, I'd probably choose death, so I think life in prison is a worse punishment.

Not just prison. Lock them up in isolation in a dark room.

Well, I mean, it's not going to be a murder-suicide with two preteen girls. And running away doesn't make a ton of sense when their stuff was found.

Maybe i have watched too many Law and Order episodes over the years, but I still wonder about the parents and what involvement they had in this. Their history with drugs and legal problems, it makes me wonder if they had some debts unpaid or ratted someone out and the girls were payback.

I'm of the stance that attention grabbing murders and other awful things such as this should be handled in a way where the perpetrator is stripped of their identity, locked up, executed and thrown into an unmarked grave never to be mentioned again. Pretty much impossible as morbid curiosity would get the best of most, and there would obviously also be people who knew the perp who would speak out. That being said, it would be great to give the finger to any attention seeking murderer seeking to be infamous in some way. You do the crime, you cease to exist...

Anyway, not saying that the girls murderer was out for attention, but again, how nice would it be to hear that the cops got their guy(s) and they were no longer without years of hearing so and so's name...

Clearly this is all fantasy, and there would be major issues with due process/human rights, but being from NE Bremer County, I want this sick bastard caught and "disappeared." I'd much rather spend my time remembering the victims than the giant dirt stick that harmed them.

Whoever killed these two girls knows the area. I spent 13 years in the area and this is in the middle of nowhere and is a short drive from Evansdale area.

I missed the presser yesterday. Did they say that the girls had been there for a long time, or looked they had recently been placed there?

They didn't say anything outside of hunters found 2 bodies and we will provide more information tomorrow.

They didn't even confirm the bodies were the girls. All they said was that two bodies were found and that this isn't the outcome they had hoped for. It was a very general press conference and they didn't really answer many questions.

There were rumors of an upcoming arrest tonight but the Sherriff's department is now denying it.

Hopefully soon.

I don't have any idea what the particular angle would be that would cause someone to do something so horrendous, but I have to believe that what happened to those girls is directly related to the parents.

Yeah...I am comfortable with this line of thinking. The thing is, I'm certain the police have a very good idea of what happened, but unfortunately have no evidence to back any of it up. Its like the Evelyn Miller case in Floyd County a while back. Everyone knew the moms b/f had something to do with it, but it took them nearly 10 years to get the evidence to convict.
