Two hawks facing felony charges

From a football standpoint though, this really hurts the Hawks especially early. Hopefully it will help us defensivly against them. Other than Brodell, has anybody else even taken snaps for them at the WR position?

You know every time this happens at Iowa or ISU, I always wonder what the heck are these kids thinking? They've got their schooling payed for and tons of opportunity ahead of them and they pull some stupid stuff like this.

They aren't thinking. Let's remeber that they are on ATHLETIC scholarships. A large portion of them won't be defending a thesis in their future.

You will be seing a lot of Brodell, Mioaki (SP?) and running game from them probably.

they still have excellent prospects

Stross has worked with Christensen for 3 yrs, DJK, the stud from Ohio. Also the one from Tate's h.s. in Tx is suppose to be a Douglas clone. The one i really think is going to be the best eventually is Sandeman from Bettendorf, the true freshman.

Hang on to your hats. Bowman has already been charged (via Iowa Courts Online) but Douglas has not. Anyone want to bet DD (starter) skirts the charges and Bowman (non-starter) will take the fall for this? DD will get a 2 game suspension and be back in time to play us (even though the game means nothing to the Hawks).

Sounds about right, I wonder if DD snitched on his teammate to get a better deal

From HawkeyeNation.com:

IOWA CITY, IA --Two University of Iowa football players have been suspended indefinitely following their arrest Sunday. Sophomore wide receivers Dominique Douglas and Anthony Bowman were taken into custody by University of Iowa Police. They were charged with unauthorized use of a credit card and were later released on their own recognizance.
Iowa Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz had the following statement.
“I am aware of the accusations that have been made against two members of the football program. Both student-athletes have been suspended indefinitely from participation in all team activities.
“The accusations are serious and, if proven to be true, are extremely disappointing for everyone associated with the University of Iowa and our football program. As always, we will work with the appropriate individuals and entities on and off campus as this matter works its way through the legal system.
“As is often the case in matters of this nature, I am aware of inconsistencies in what may or may not have taken place. We need to let the legal process run its course.”

And now Kirk has the perfect excuse (legal system has run its course) for the meaningless suspension. You can already see the pieces falling in place per Ferentz...

Give it some time before you all get nuts on Kirk. This all just came out, he will want to see if DD is even charged wtih it. If he is charged of a felony, I think he will sit until the courts decide what to do with him. That should mean he is out all season.

I'm not sure what's worse, the crime at hand or the fact this is a 4 (soon to be 5) page thread with over 1,500 views?

I guess you guys don't care about Iowa and beating the Hawks, I forgot.

I'm surprised they couldn't keep the charges from being filed until after their careers were finished at Iowa.

I wouldn't be surprised to see plea agreements to lessor charges and a promotion to leadership council in the future.:biglaugh:

I enjoy any and all misery that the University to the East goes through and then the associated excuses to come out of the mouths from all the "we are the USC of the midwest" crowd.

I want us to mutilate EIU at any opportunity and also root for any team playing them anytime after that. Get over it....

Do not judge lest ye be judged...:skeptical:

Who said that? I want to beat hawks every opportunity I can. Sure I love success in the Big XII and value those games also, but nothing starts the season off right like a Hawkeye *** whoopin and watching all there national title hopes go down in flames yearly.

Hey, I wanna beat them too. I just think it's funny when people claim in other threads they would much rather beat Nebraska and beating the Hawks is secondary. Threads like these clearly point the other direction. I'm not hating on anyone for cutting down the Hawks, it's just the people who talk out of both ends. Just an observation on my part on this cloudy Monday afternoon.

Trust me, I wanted to post something very negative in the "Adam Haluska at Fanfest" thread yesterday and had to resist because somehow that's not socially acceptable anymore.

I would much rather beat Nebraska. Did you miss the Marlon Lucky threads when he got in trouble? There were tons of posts regarding that.

Key basketballers Mike Henderson and Tyson Smith got caught stealing clothes at the shopping mall last fall and barely missed any time when all was said and done.

I know this is more serious given that it includes use of stolen credit cards and receiving stolen goods thru the mail, but the legal system is a funny thing. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this was negotiated down to a misdemeanor or the boys plead into a first-time offenders program. I'll be surprised if DD isn't still wearing a football uniform this fall.
