THT Going into the Draft

My two cents is that he'll get a promise from Golden State that if he falls to them, they will take him in the first round, such that he'll stay in the draft.

While shorter, after a few years of honing his shooting skills, improving on his decision-making and getting stronger, he would be great at Dray Green's role. To me, that's the best comparison athletically / potential future skills-wise.

THT is not getting a first round promise from Golden State, lol.

Eric Gordon is also 215 pounds according to Basketball Reference.

THT was approximately 240 last year. Interesting discussion to be had if he needs to lose some weight to become fleeter or bulk up to be able to play on the block.

Horton-Tucker is a pretty unique cat. I cannot really think of many NBA guys that you would describe as 6'4" (so on the shorter side for a swingman), thicc, and super long for his height, more of a skill and finesse guy (at 18 years old now) rather than a raw, unrefined athlete who has a lot to learn about the game. Those are pretty... weird characteristics.

The thing about comps is they are rarely perfect, but physically, Barkley is a great one. Obviously very different skill sets and athleticism.

I guess I find both comparisons odd. I'd totally agree that Burton is the superior athlete, but both constitute intriguing "tweeners".

As for Gordon, I always see Gordon as a knock-down 3 point shooter. The guy has taken nearly as many 3 point attempts in his career (3,898) as 2 point attempts (4,447). He's really more of a true shooting guard. Whereas with THT, I think he probably projects as more of an undersized wing in the NBA. I'd put him more in the Jabari Parker (realizing Parker is 4 inches taller) role than that of a true shooting guard. If teams are looking at him as a 3 point shooter I think they will be disappointed.

Gordon became a knock down 3 point shooter out of necessity imo based on the way Houston structured their offense around James Harden. I think he could be more dynamic in a more “standard” offense.

IMO, if Wiggs came back to ISU for another season and really shined, he would go on to have a better pro career than THT.

I just feel like the upside for Wiggs is still higher than THT.

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but I don’t see any way that a (very athletic!) 6’2” 2-guard with a 6’3” wingspan has a higher upside than a 6’4” guy with a 7’1” wingspan who can play/defend multiple positions.

Except Draymond is one of the best defenders in the NBA.

THT’s game reminds me somewhat of Jayson Tatum’s. Very diverse offensively with some shot selection issues. Both multi-positional defenders. Tatum has a better jump shot.

Fixed it for you. THT, At 6’ 4”, will not be able to play/defend multiple positions in the NBA. Too slow to guard the 2 or the 3. Too short to guard the post or the 4. Tweener with a strong college game. Wigginton is also too short to play the 2, and doesn’t have the handles necessary to play the point. This is Stinson and Blaylock all over again.

They both have strengths and weaknesses obviously.

Wiggs is more athletic and is a better shooter. THT has more length and is better defensively.

If I were to make projections... I don't think either will have a successful NBA career.

Hopefully both of them get the chance to hone their craft and not get buried in the G-League. THT is a projected 1st rounder. I believe that gives him 2 years guaranteed. Wiggs probably has an uphill climb.

Both of these guys can get there. I hope they made the right choice. Wiggs could have developed a midrange jumper over the next two years that would make him deadly with his quickness. It's strange that his 3 pt. shot was his strength while at ISU. That was supposed to be his biggest weakness.

Looks like Talen has signed with Klutch Sports Out of Clevland, which is headed by Rich Paul. From the Wiki: Rich Paul is an American sports agent based in Cleveland, Ohio. He founded Klutch Sports Group and represents a number of prominent NBA players, including Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, Ben Simmons, Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, and long-time friend LeBron James.

What is Wigginton's situation looking like? I haven't really seen him on any mock drafts and I think the possibility of him getting drafted is very slim.

Should probably find out by the end of next week or sometime around there who all the combine invites are.

Good for THT. Hopefully he can show out and get the right feedback. He is starting to slip into the hard decision zone (although his decision is probably already made) in the mock drafts.
