The Truth (with no dare involved) .........

Got a couple, first major was athletic training, first year as student trainer, after football I was chosen to be basketball trainer. By then I had decided to change majors so I turned it down so that someone else could have the opportunity. That was Fizer's last season and the year we went to the Elite 8, I could have travelled for the entire thing and had a ring.
After that I ended up as a student manager for the women's soccer team. My first season we played at Penn and at Princeton, when we were in Jersey for Princeton we went over to NY to see Statue of Liberty, WTC, etc. Flew out of Pennslyvania on Sept. 9, 2001 to come back to ISU, everyone else knows the rest of that story...

where to start.... well I'm a life longer! Had season tickets to FB, MBB, and WBB and have not missed a home or instate game in 13 seasons. My uncle works as an associate AD here (which is great ). I've attended many bball camps here. But probably my best story of all is about Cael. My dad owns apartments in Ames, and Cael lived in one with a couple other guys. Well, they would hire me to mow their lawn once a week in the summer, and when I was done, they would invite me in and we'd sit and watch TV and drink some pop and just chill. It was pretty sweet

Grew up a casual Clone fan, but after moving to Ames for school, I loved it so much that I never left!

1) Lived in an apartment on Steinbeck in '02-'03 across from Jackson Vroman and Jake Sullivan. Vroman needed a last-minute ride to class once in the snow so I obliged. He got in the front seat and moved it back suddenly crushing my buddy in the back seat's tows. I'm sorry to say he was less than appreciative and not much for personality.

2) Was at the Florida State game at Arrowhead, but left at halftime because we were getting beat and I had WAY too much to drink (accidentally smacked the elderly lady behind me in the glasses- that's a whole other story). I woke up 2 hours later in our hotel room with my friends coming in yelling about how we ALMOST (should have) won. I didn't believe them until they turned on Sports Center.

3) Now own a business in Ames that has allowed my wife and I to have frequent contact with many of the football coaches and wifes- it's nice to have candid, non-press conference type conversations with these people. They had to move to a new town for a new job and try to fit in just like a lot of us had to.

Sorry, those were all kind of Debbie Downer stories. I love Ames, love ISU and can't wait for ISU's athletic program to become one of the best in the Big 12!

GO CLONES!!

fan since i can remember and until i can't remember any more got dunked on by Loren Meyer when i was 11 @ basketball camp and stood next to tim floyd for awhile

Been going to ISU games for over 50-years.
I've seen a lot of heart breakers!

Best FB coach we have ever had-Johnny Majors.GREAT recruiter.

Rick, and others, do you think the success of Tim Floyd had anything to do with the dismissal of Tom Davis? I have always thought that because Floyd came in and was immediately successful, that the "team that shall not be mentioned" supporters, decided that going to the first round every year just wasn't good enough? I liked Tom Davis a great deal, what he stood for, and how he developed young men. I have to say that the day he wasn't good enough for them was the final nail in the coffin for me, and any semblance of respect I will ever have for them. And now, whenever he is asked to be anywhere or to do anything for that university they fawn all over him as though nothing happened, including the two faced radio crowd.

Go Cyclones.

I think Floyd's success may have had some impact but remember this is the same school that lost Ralph Miller, ran off Lute Olsen along with Davis Debacle. After what they did to Lute its a wonder they could get anybody. Of course he hasnt done much since he went to Arizona has he:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

I once wrestled Harold Nichols to the floor while he was in his underwear and a robe.

I dated a cheerleader for FB & Men's BBall while attending ISU.

I attended Johnny Orr's BBall camp as a kid and Victor Alexander was also there. Big Vic visited the dorm room I was staying in for the camp and stole my pizza one night.

A stripper at BJ's Lucky Lady that dated Kelvin Cato took a fancy to me one night.

I went fishing with Pete Taylor.

I once extended my hand to Hayden Fry and when he reached for it I pulled it back and made him whiff (I know....nothing to do with ISU, but a good story none the less).

And yes....it is all true.
"Bob is it really you?'

"The Stripper"

Played pick up with Julio...he killed us and was unbelievably nice. He had some guys from his dorm floor and one of them had some physical issues where one side of his body didn't really function that well...Julio got him the ball countless times. Really impressed me.

I also had a Mark Baugh encounter at State Gym...it was when he was ineligible. I didn't recognize him and asked him if he had a 'team' because I was by myself and was wanting to get in a game. He got a little peaved at me and told me "I've got a team!". I ended up playing against him and he had 8-9 dunks out of the 11 points. It was ugly. The guy playing point had played with him before and the first time the ball was checked in he just threw it up towards the baseket and Baugh jammed it home hard. It was a sign of things to come. : )

Ron Bayless played pick up with us one time...and my brother was D'n him up too hard...so Ron told him "Get off me *****!". That's a fun story. : )

I took a summer class with Kenny Pratt and Kelvin Cato. Pratt worked his *** off and failed, Cato slept through class and passed.

Thank you for sharing that, especially about Julio. I never had the opportunity to meet him. Now I think I know him much better!

Go Cyclones

I occasionally drive the firetruck that leads the team in the Spirit Walk. Most of the time I just hang off the driver side with a beer in one hand.

Went to ISU one year, then transferred to Iowa, (a story for another time), where I learned to party like there is no tomorrow. Met my wife of 38 years at Iowa as well as some still best friends. My entire family: Wife, daughters, son-in-law, all other in laws and primary family, etc. are huge Iowa fans - I'm still the only Clone fan, (well my wife tries).
And you thought you had problems.

Getting away from football and wrestling, my babysitter from when I was a child married Steve Krafcisim (assistant coach under Tim Floyd).

My friend shot the 5 for 5 contest at halftime of "the" OK State game. His seat number got called about 5 minutes after we traded seats. He made 1. They wouldn't let him keep any of the prizes because he was in high school. Said it would be a recruiting violation.

My all time favorite Cyclone is Matt Knoll.

I played football and track for Coach's Walden and Bergan in the late 80's. One night some wrestler's, football cheerleaders, and myself went cow tipping North of campus- true story.
