The Truth (with no dare involved) .........

I was once bounced from an Ames bar by 400 pound All American wrestler Chris Taylor. I did not argue with him. (true story)

i bounced a group of guys (i had some help) from Sip's one night that included Cael Sanderson. he wasn't drinking but was hanging with friends who were hammered and trying to start fights with everyone. i felt horrible at the time but not so much now.

There was never any doubt I was going to be a Cyclone. I can't peg a time as I have no memory that doesn't include ISU. Both my parents graduated from ISU as did my sister and I. My grandfather helped build Friley Hall (both my sister and I lived there at some point in our time at ISU). My parents have a picture of my sister and I sitting next to Lake Lavervne with Friley in the background (I was about four years old and was turning my sister's head back towards the camera).

We went to many football games as a family, I remember Dwayne Crutchfield diving into the south end zone on a TD run and nearly breaking his neck. I fell down the steel stairs in the north end zone stands during a sleet storm at a game against Nebraska. My sister and I rolled down the hillsides at Jack Trice so many times that I cannot even begin to count them. I continued that tradition until my junior year at ISU. I have been fortunate enough to have seen many of the great games and players since (and some poor results as well).

We went to basketball games as well. I saw Johnny's Journey (a "T" earned during a game against Missouri). Barry Stevens had the sweetest stroke from the corner. Unbelievable talent.

My freshman year at ISU some dorm mates and I had seats three rows behind the Iowa bench for the Lafester game. That is, to this day, the loudest I have ever heard Hilton. I vividly remember watching Tom Davis yell at Ed Horton and Al Lorenzen, only you couldn't hear him over the crowd noise despite that fact he was maybe 15 feet away.

My last three years at ISU, I was lucky enough to work for the basketball team as an equipment manager and video guy. My first call to try to get the job resulted in an unmistakable voice answering the phone with the word, "basketball". The one and only Coach Orr was answering his own phone that day. I nearly swallowed my tongue trying to ask him for the opportunity. I got that job and had a glorious time being involved with the team. To this day, I have season tickets and have continued my love affair with Hilton and the basketball team.

There have been many great memories and I am hopeful to be able to witness many more to come. Coaches Rhoads and Hoiberg, along with Coach Fennelly and Coach Jackson have ISU poised for what could be the greatest era in its history. I CANNOT WAIT!!!

GO CYCLONES!!!!!

p.s. To this day, I still yell "SIT DOWN NORM!!", when Missouri comes to town and Norm Stewart does radio or tv for the Tigers.

So there I was... in my mother's womb.... Lafester Rhodes had scored 56 points against Iowa the previous season..... My family is big Cyclone fans.... My cousins wanted my mom to name me Lafester..... Thank God she didn't.

Since then, I have been a huge Cyclone fan. My cousin went to ISU in the late 90s and got me autographs of several basketball players such as Dedric Willoughby, Matt Knoll, Marcus Fizer, and a few others.

My first football game was on September 25, 1999. We lost to KST at home 35-28 after leading 28-7 at the half. I remember being down a touchdown late in the game and we still kept trying to run up the middle. I have been to many football games since and plan to be a football season ticket holder for the rest of my life.

I was at the basketball game in 2001 when we clinched the Big 12 Championship against Nebraska. One of my favorite memories was in 2004 when the Men and Women played NIT games in the same night in Hilton. There was a huge crowd and a lot of excitement.

I cried like a baby after we lost to Michigan State in the Elite 8.

Last year (my senior year) I was in the student section right next to the Texas bench during the basketball game. After Dexter Pittman fouled someone, he headed to the bench and Hilton was extremely quiet. I yelled, "Hey Dexter, you want a twinkie, buddy?" He obviously heard me and the whole Texas bench looked over. Then my girlfriend hit me.

Grew up a HUGE hawk fan..lived and breathed Iowa basketball. Started going to ISU in 98' but at the time had kind of drifted from sports. After ISU won that football game for the first time in 15 years I was happy, really happy. So I sat there in my apartment and realized...'crap, I guess I'm a Cyclone fan'. I've never looked back.

Thank you for sharing DOJO!
I hope you plan on sharing more of them in the future.
When I see that you have posted, from here on out, I will say to myself, SIT DOWN NORM.
Welcome.

Both parents went to ISU and I've been a fan ever since I was thought of. I LOVE ISU sports. I've also played basketball ever since I was 2 and I've always wanted to play at ISU. I started gaining interest in ISU football when I was 7 and Sage Rosenfels and Dan McCarney led ISU to a 9-3 year with a win over Pitt in the Insight (if my memory serves me right I believe they played Pitt.) Four years of McDoormat ball have tore me away from ball and I now love ISU football more than I could ever love a human baby. I constantly am checking CycloneReport.com Iowastate.scout.com and of course CF for anything I can possibly find. During classes I have my iPod checking CF for any news. I am a true Cyclone Fanatic! As much as it pains me to say this I am thinking about going to school elsewhere for my undergrad. I'm looking into the accounting field and ISU just doesn't seem like the right fit. I will def. get some schooling from Iowa state just to be able to say that I went to ISU and not be like all the EIU fans out there. I love Cyclone Sports!!!!!

my roommate was on sportscenter when we beat the hawks in iowa city and tore down our own goalposts, drug them down lincoln way, and threw them in lake laverne.

i also had a class with fizer. dude wasn't any taller then 6'8". i'm 6'4", and once partied with homan and vroman and they were both taller then fizer.

Trombone marching/pep band 2001-04. Once met Seneca Wallace & Jeremy Lloyd (I think it was Lloyd) playing basketball at the Lied Rec Center during the spring semester of '02. We joked about his Heisman campaign. Dude could dunk a basketball too.

I really enjoyed this isufan.

I was on the southwest hillside when Kstate scoredfirst in the second half. I looked around and everyone sitting next to me had that ...... "we know where this is heading" look to them and sure enough we ended up losing the game.

The elite 8 Michigan game is one of my fondest basketball memories and one of my most embarrassing, relating to ISU sports. Larry was out of control, and I have to admit that I wasn't proud to be a Cyclone after his tirade.

Love the post.

I tackled Fred Hoiberg. I was a defensive end for Dowling, he was Ames' QB, of course. I hit him from the blind side, bounced off him, and then went back and made the tackle. I can now say I've tackled an ISU basketball player, an NBA basketball player, and a D1 basketball coach.

Apparently your girlfriend doesn't like you giving away her twinkies. :twitcy:
