The Truth (with no dare involved) .........

I work for the Athletic Dept., have met most of the coaches at one time or another and some of the players. I have also been almost everywhere within the athletic facilities and I get into almost all the games for free.

Do you get to enjoy them or just work them? One of the main reasons I have held back from working in sports is I enjoy watching them and everthing that goes with it (beer) too much.

Played basketball. My record for number of teammates will never be broken, or as my friend Jon Bon Jovi would say "I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all."

I helped Dedric Willoughby become a better pool player at Tazzles. He had dead aim accuracy, but never knew where to hit it. I was always the complete opposite. I always knew where to hit it, but couldn't. So, I would point to the exact spot, and he'd hit it every time. Hung out many a night in there with him and Carlo Walton.

Also played at the dunk hoop in Granger against Jacy Holloway. The play of the day was when our team was on offense at the beginning of the first game. I was at the point and my brother had Jacy guarding him. But, my brother was acting like he was guarding Jacy down in the post. Jacy finally broke out to the 3-point line to receive the pass. I just looked at him as I fed the ball down to my brother, who dunked it home. The look on his face was priceless. I still rib him when I see him in KC at the Big XII Tourney about that...

Get to watch almost all of the games (not working). Usually I miss the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes due to work, and get to watch everything in between.

I WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND :notworthy:

Alum. Grew up on the dark side, then began to see the light as a junior in high school. As a student, I was on the Cyclone Alley Committee, interned in the Athletics Department, and worked for Rec Services.

My most random story would be in the spring of '06 I played in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in State Gym. My teammates were Curtis Stinson and Victor Boss. I was on the team because I was working at the Rec the night before the tournament and Vic was in there looking for someone to fill out the team, specifically a big guy. There was no one there but me. At 6'5" I fit the height requirement, but at 170 lbs. I wasn't exactly a bruiser. Vic could hit the 3 and Curt was unstoppable on the drive, but we didn't do very well in the tournament. I hadn't played in a couple months and we as a team couldn't play defense. I didn't stick around for the championship round, but I believe a Damion Staple's and Anthony Davis' team played Farnold Degand's team for a cash prize. There were a couple players there that were still on the team, but a few weeks later, at the end of spring break, there was a lot of change in the program.

Jacy. Was it Jacy or J.C.? It doesn't matter, just like to be anal I guess. Will NEVER forget the three pointer he made in the tournament. That guy was tough as nails. I would love to have shot hoops with that guy.

We just want one. Nothing that would identify yourself. Just a connection that you feel fond of, that might be unique among the rest of us. Thanks

Go Cyclones.

I was born a Hawkeye fan but always wanted Iowa State to win as long it was not against Iowa...

...and then I started dating a Cyclone coach...damn her for making me wear the Cardinal and Gold!! :)

my bro was mistaken for Adam haluska when we lived in Ames my bro knew Haluska too. My brothers name is also Adam so my bro was playing at state gym and Fizer,Tinsley and some other guys called him over to play. My brother looks similar to Haluska also. With blonde hair,6 foot 6 and played the same position. Pretty crazy.

I play with Howard eaton every once in a while at aspen. I saw jessan gray about a week ago there playing also.

I graduated from ISU and met my future wife there. I worked for the football team from 1996-1998, and was there when we moved into the Jacobsen building. Filmed every practice and game during that time, cut tapes for the coaches, and traveled with the team.

My wife and I live in CA now, but I still split season tickets with my Dad (still in IA) and have an annual tradition of coming back each year for the Iowa game and the home game the week before. This year the wife and I had just a 4-hour drive to Vegas for the UNLV game, so I got to see three in a row in person (woo-hoo!).

Other than the daily contact with the football coaches and players (Troy Davis was one of the nicest guys ever, and Coach Mac was fun to be around), one of my funny ISU athlete memories was of the basketball team at Dean's List one night...

Shawn Bankhead, Kelvin Cato, Kenny Pratt, and maybe Dedric Willoughby were all out together. They were working the dancefloor, and Bankhead was carrying a video camera. At one point Bankhead was up on the balcony shooting down at Cato and Pratt on the dancefloor when my buddy and I noticed he was working the video camera all wrong.

He was pointing the video camera down at his boys (we're talking old-school, on-the-shoulder VHS camera here), waving his other arm up in the air and giving them some "Whut uuuuuup!" love. We noticed that the red "record" light wasn't flashing, but when he put the camera down and hit the button to "stop" recording, we saw the light come on. We watched Bankhead walk around for a while, slinging the "off" camera down by his leg with the red "record" light on. This pattern continued all night. My buddy and I were laughing, wishing we could have been there when they got home and had 2 hours of video of upside down shoes.

Those guys might not have been the brightest, but they were a fun bunch of bruisers, and they could BALL.

My apologies... that story was probably much longer than it was good.

Great idea for a thread, Balrog. Welcome to CF!

Been a lifelong Cyclone fan. Started attending games when I was three years old. Had season tickets with my dad from the time I was three until I graduated college, then just couldn't find the time to go to games all the time when I was in college.

Seen many of things during my days, but some of the best in person were:

1. Hanging out with "The Mayors" family during his senior season at the Big 8 Tournament. My dad was checking into the hotel, and I was in sixth grade. My parents owned a clothing store, so they made me a Fred Hoiberg jersey. His parents tapped me on the shoulder and started talking with me. Was pretty funny as we walked away from the check-in counter, my dad had no clue where I was at. When he saw me, he was about to flip out that I walked away with strangers, until I said, "Dad, these are the Mayor's parents." it was pretty cool.

2. Saw every game that TD played at Cyclone Stadium (old name of course). He was a thrill to watch.

3. Seeing the Cyclones win the final Big 8 Tournament, which was also the first tournament win in school history.

An ex girlfriend of mine's brother beat Cael Sanderson when he was attending ISU but wrestling unattached.
