Have you ever been to the Legends area? Far from a dump and KCK had far more vision than KCMO ever had in building that area. Add an arena there and the Big 12 would have the tournament there in an instant. The Wizards (I mean Sporting KC) sell out almost every single game in their new stadium.
Al! Say it ain't so! Now you're over on the WVU board, engaging with your potential conference rival over the "BILLIONS" of dollars KC is going to lose after the Big 12 dissolves...er...moves CCGs to OKC.
Scout.com: Poetic Justice that Mizzou BOC is meeting in KC
Seriously though, KCK is a dump. Even our KS friends will admit that.
It's weird how this all plays out...KU, KSU, and ISU fans hangin' out with WVU, all joined in their dislike for Mizzou. What does WVU have against Mizzou? They were selected as SEC #14, a spot WVU wanted. The Big 12 is their fallback position.
I don't blame WVU a bit...we'd be doing the SAME thing if they got the spot. But our own conference-mates, shivving us on our way out the door, with another team that really doesn't want to be in the Big 12?
Glad to see stability is returning to the conference.
No one is ripping on Mizzou over there, just saying it as it is.
As far as the bolded part, this conference will be stable as soon as you leave or commit your rights.
Amen to the Legends...with the KS Speedway, Sporting KC, and the new casino going in that place is booming...
Don't think you need another arena...what people don't understand about KC is that there really aren't borders...there are plenty of MU fans that live in KS and vice-versa...
If MU leaves I'm sure they will use that as an excuse to move the tourney but to me there's no reason to move it...downtown KC is as much KU and KSU territory as it is MU...granted there are more MU fans on the MO side but downtown is shared by everyone...KS and MO...
We'll see, Al. You may be right. But Mellinger (a sports columnist for the KC Star, and NO fan of Mizzou or its decision to leave) sees it differently:
"MU wanted at least a 10-year grant-of-broadcast-rights that would’ve effectively guaranteed the league’s existence. Instead, others pushed a six-year agreement that fit conveniently into the sweet spot that only Texas and Oklahoma could afford to break. And even that was never officially agreed upon.MU, Big 12 could have done more to prevent departure - KansasCity.com
MU football coach Gary Pinkel was the most outspoken voice of reason when Texas and ESPN wanted to put high school games on the Longhorn Network. The conference never officially ruled on that, instead letting Texas pull back in exchange for pushing a shorter grant-of-rights."
Interesting note: nobody's actually SIGNED that rights deal yet.
We all thought that the Big 12 would be stable once NU and CU left, and the B1G told Mizzou to buzz off. The buyouts were restructured to discourage anyone from leaving, and the new TV deal insured the future of the league.
Except it didn't. The old problems remained. I hope that KU, KSU, and ISU join with the Big East refugees to protect the conference from those who see it as nothing more than a home for non-revenue sports and an easy ticket to the BCS. Maybe they can do a better job than MU did of putting it on more equitable footing.
If MU leaves I bet the BBall tourney goes to OK City for good. No way they play it in the state of MO and I don't see them going that far up north to Des Moines or playing it in somewhere like Wichita.
My understanding is that everyone in the Big 12 minus Mizzou has signed that grant of rights. Not just agreed to it, signed it.
The Big 12 Board of Directors officially agreed today by a vote of 8-0 a formal grant of television rights for a minimum of six years during a teleconference — in essence, distributing their first and second-tier TV rights equally. Up to that point, the idea was only agreed upon in principle. As you’ll notice, the Big 12 currently has nine members, but only eight votes; Missouri, on the advice of legal counsel, did not partake in the vote.
Reports have surfaced that TCU has already agreed to Big 12 grant of rights, essentially being the nail in their Big East coffin. TCU has confirmed those reports.
Hoops, you think the KC metro area can sustain TWO brand-new sports arenas, with no NBA or NHL tenants, based on a 4-day basketball tournament? What do you schedule there the other 361 days of the year?
It's more likely that the league will choose to hold the tourney in DSM or Wichita than it is to see another venue built to compete with the Sprint Center.
Most likely, the B12 will use this as an excuse to move the tourney to OKC or Dallas permanently. KU hoops doesn't have enough clout with league mgmt. to keep it in KC.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Alabama pushing for Missouri to be placed into the SEC Eastern division? Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense, and should really help the recruiting. Morons.
If that is part of the deal for joining the SEC, that they play in the Eastern division, then there is absolutely no way to justify this move by Missouri. I know some will try, but c'mon. I mean you get upset that you are being abused in your current relationship, so you leave that one and enter into a different relationship with more abuse but better stability? Huh?
Alabama, which resides in the SEC minority of wanting No. 14 from the East Coast, would support Missouri if it joined the SEC East, not the West, multiple sources said. According to the sources, Alabama has two objectives: Keep its annual cross-division rivalry game against Tennessee, and not watch Auburn move to the East and possibly grow its recruiting presence in talent-rich Florida and Georgia.
Memo to Missouri: Get used to this type of pettiness in the SEC, where even the tiniest of potential football recruiting advantages becomes dissected.
