Mizzou is upset that the tigers were shot in Zanesville, Ohio. "Guess the Big Ten does not want us," said Brady Deaton.

Nope. At least, as far as *I* can tell.

This is from the NY Times on the day of the press conference clusterf*** :

"Another Big 12 official said: “There hasn’t been any piece of paper to memorialize the grant of rights yet. They’re in a position philosophically to approve a grant of rights for a six-year period upon seeking the approval of their various governance boards.â€￾
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/23/s...-on-tv-money-as-its-commissioner-resigns.html

And this is from ESPN yesterday, referencing the Big East's TV deal:

"The Big Ten and Pac-12 schools have granted their rights to the conferences, while Big 12 leaders, in an effort to bring stability to their league, recently agreed to grant their top-tier TV rights to the conference for at least six years."
Big East schools were working on giving TV rights to conference before losses - ESPN

Both seem to say the same thing: a 6-yr deal was agreed to IN PRINCIPLE, but nothing is signed. If anybody has anything showing that the schools have actually signed the rights deal, throw it out there.

If I'm WVU, I would INSIST on a 10+ year rights deal as a condition of joining the Big 12. Otherwise I'd take my chances in whatever's left of the Big East.

If they don't then they're doing the same thing Mizzou is doing, except they're moving further away to join a conference that MIGHT not be there in a few years.

The reason that it hasn't been signed yet is because they are waiting on Missouri. It has been agreed to. The signing is a formality. Why are you overreacting to something that needs no reaction at all. Just stupid. Get over it and LEAVE.

Hoops, you think the KC metro area can sustain TWO brand-new sports arenas, with no NBA or NHL tenants, based on a 4-day basketball tournament? What do you schedule there the other 361 days of the year?

It's more likely that the league will choose to hold the tourney in DSM or Wichita than it is to see another venue built to compete with the Sprint Center.

Most likely, the B12 will use this as an excuse to move the tourney to OKC or Dallas permanently. KU hoops doesn't have enough clout with league mgmt. to keep it in KC.

No. That points to the ridiculousness of the arena being just across the state line being a factor. It shouldn't be and I think the media is overreacting to it. And using the argument that no other conference has a tournament in a state without a team, there is no situation where a city has hosted it annually and a team has left the conference, so there is nothing to compare it to.

If I was the MVC, I would put the MVC bball tournament in Omaha. The Indiana States and Southern Illinois teams are not even in St Louis, Missouri.

Atlantic Ten Conference has had their tournament in New Jersey the last 5 years (and will this year). They do not have any teams from New Jersey in their conference. I wonder how Rutgers feels about this? Or do they really care?

Media is making a mountain out of a molehill with the location of the conference tournament.

West Coast Conference has had their conference tournament in Nevada for the last 3 years and will again this year. Can someone tell me what WCC team is in Nevada?

BYU.

Or maybe they just went to Vegas to gamble on independent status.

Seriously, though - Nevada is the compromise "buffer" state so that no single state in the WCC (Utah, California, Washington, or Oregon) can claim home field advantage in the championship game on the off chance that their fan shows up at halftime to check on the score.

But I thought that no conference would host a tournament in a state that didn't have a member in that state. That is what everyone is saying about KC hosting tournament and Missouri going to SEC.

Sorry, but KC is not Las Vegas. Along with being a huge tourist destination, LV is probably one of the most economical cities to travel to in terms of air flight and hotels.

Obviously this could change depending on who we add to replace Mizzou, but looking at the current geographic footprint, KC makes very little sense for 6/9 schools in the B12. If we add BYU I'd say we're done in KC for sure, if we add Louisville it may have a shot.

Umm...BYU is in Utah.

What if the concession they're waiting on is actually another mountain region team (you'd have to think BSU with the series deal they have) joining them?

The two BIG concessions the B12 has openly admitted to being fine with. No games on Sundays and keeping their network. Steering the expansion teams is the only other realistic concession that makes sense for them to be holding out for.

If they think they can somehow get a better deal than UT, they may be doing Cincy a huge favor by adding them as #12.

A concession (and this may not be the only one) that BYU is looking for, according to a couple of different articles that have been linked in threads here, has to do with the whole issue of rights to BYU home football games. ESPN owns the right to all BYU home FB games for the next 7 years, except for 1 game per year to be shown on the BYU network.

As others have posted, in no way should the Big 12 give BYU special treatment. Those BYU home games need to be treated like all other home games.

In the current footprint, OKC is the most central. However, the current will not be what the conference will look like in two weeks much less three years when a new site will be selected.

There are two conferences that I have found already that CURRENTLY host tournaments in states without members. Give any excuse you want, but there is precedence. Those other conferences didn't have a history at those sites before hosting. So although, they may have tourism over KC, KC has a history advantage over the other ones when comparing reasons why a conference would host a tournament in a state outside of its footprint.

ALSO, the school that is currently closest to Sprint Center is not leaving. It's not like the conference tournament is in Columbia or St. Louis. It is in KC.

CNN is now reporting that Mizzou officials are very upset that Col. Gadhafi has stolen their media attention.

Oh CRAP! Has the SEC invited Libya to join?

I thought we might lose our spot to OU or WVU, but I guess the SEC covets the North African market. Does anybody know how many TV households are in Tripoli?

:arghh:

Isn't Missouri going to have a closed door meeting in like 10 mins? I thought I remembered hearing that sometime in the past week. Tonight and tomorrow morning or something?

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Alabama pushing for Missouri to be placed into the SEC Eastern division? Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense, and should really help the recruiting. Morons.

If that is part of the deal for joining the SEC, that they play in the Eastern division, then there is absolutely no way to justify this move by Missouri. I know some will try, but c'mon. I mean you get upset that you are being abused in your current relationship, so you leave that one and enter into a different relationship with more abuse but better stability? Huh?

I'll try...it's really not a dealbreaker for Mizzou. Here's why:

1. Don't pay too much attention to the East/West designations; some of the schools closest to Missouri (UK, UTenn, Vandy) are in the east, while some of the furthest away (Auburn, LSU) are in the West. Might as well call it "Leaders" or "Legends" or some bulls***.

2. If you had to pick a division in the SEC to join based on competition RIGHT NOW, it would clearly be the East.

3. Only football and a couple of other sports use the division designations; for most of the non-revenue sports, divisions don't apply.

4. If/when the SEC moves to 16 teams, depending on who they take, they'll reshuffle the divisions again anyway. The location of the new teams (WVU or NCST in the east, or OU/OSU in the west) will influence how that's divvied up.

I can respect that the SEC wants to keep some matchups protected. They already added TAMU in the West, so this makes sense. It's not like the B12 would break up OU/TX or KU/KSU just because they added WVU.

Mizzoulander, just for yucks, if MU ends up staying in the Big 12 and not going to the SEC, would you cry like a baby??? Serious question.

Mizzoulander maybe but that nut job QBUMizzou will probably slit his wrists. Zoulander isnt bad the other guy is a doosh.

Guess I answered my own question...
