Quick update...kind of. I've been working the phones this morning. Folks at ISU aren't saying much. Hardly anything at that. Not a surprise. Talking does Iowa State no good at this point.

Big 12 AD's will have a conference call today at 3.

They have quotes from the athletic director. It isn't opinion.

Seriously Chris, you're not that naive, are you? What in the world is Missouri's AD going to say to some writer right now? NOTHING. Even if something was going down, he would say NOTHING.

Missouri has been burned already by saying too much in the past. They aren't going to tell some hick writer in Columbia that they're going to the SEC when nothing is even close to being a done deal at all.

Missouri's AD might not be too bright, but he's smart enough to keep his mouth shut this time around.

Same with ISU. We won't be saying anything either. It does no good at all.

Not at all sir. Been around this block before. But as a journalist, you can only report what you are being told. Gabe is doing some solid reporting today. He has a Big 12 AD on the record. How often do you see that during realignment on the Internet? Not very. You don't have to believe the report. I'm just letting folks know what is out there.

So you choose to believe an unsubstantiated rumor over a firsthand quote from a respected AD? Okay.

It's very possible that Alden hasn't had any direct contact with the SEC. It's very possible the SEC has interest in MIzzou. It's also very possible that the first official contact between the two may be in the form of an SEC invitation.

Doug G. just tweeted that his source about all three of these new teams heading to the SEC is from an A&M source...nothing from those other schools. Makes this report less credible IMO. Seems like he backpedaled there.

It may just be speculation from an A&M official. For some reason A&M has wanted Mizzou to come along. Not really sure why.

My god A&M people/sources are out of control. Next thing they'll be saying is they're taking Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC with them to the SEC

Sounds like Aggie trying to stir up more ****. Nothing shocking there.

Gottlieb should know better.

Yep. Aggie trying everything they can to get the Big 12 the crash down around Texas. No matter what happens, Texas will be perfectly fine after all of this.

Because A&M knows Missouri was praying for a Big Ten offer last year and probably wants out as well. Not a bad move by A&M to find a partner to come with them so it's an even number

Seriously, why stop at 16. You're going to have teams in your own conference you'll only see at home for football once every 12 years...so it's not like your much in the same conference anyways.

Just go to two conferences of 36 or 48. Then you can have a championship between the two conferences and everyone will be happy.

This. Texas has plenty of options. They hold WAY more cards than A&M. They could call the SEC tomorrow and say we'll join and bring OU with us but don't take A&M and Aggy would be screwed

If Mizzou really is gone, the Big 12 is done. That puts the SEC at 16 teams (A&M, Mizzou, Clemson, FSU).

I see the Big Ten wanting to keep pace, they'll make another run at Notre Dame and this time might get them. I could also see them making an ACC raid on perhaps Duke, North Carolina and either Maryland or Georgia Tech. Pac-12 makes a power play for OU, OSU, Texas and Texas Tech. Big East responds by grabbing KU, KSU and Iowa State to at least get to 12, maybe grab several more schools from the ACC to get to 16 (or the ACC raids the Big East/Big 12 to get to 16).

The only school I think might truly be left out in this whole shakeup would be Baylor.

Can't believe we're seeing this only one year later...thought it'd be at least a few years before something big happened again. Thanks to everyone in the Big 12 for your 10 year commitments last summer. Thanks to Scott, Delany, and Silve for your unquenchable greed.

Me too. I'm amazed at how quickly this thing crumbled, especially after the amount of money the new contract brought.
