Nice job of explicitly showing your priorities A&M gather a bunch of SEC buffs to attend summer graduation so you can chant SEC. We all know the priorities of major universities are athletics over academics, but you just wanted to make it clear for us...who could give a flip about graduation...this is our chance to chant SEC!

"SEC presidents are scheduled to meet this weekend in an emergency session to discuss the A&M situation. From all indications, A&M regents are ready to green-light a move to the SEC before Texas lawmakers can convene to discuss the topic.

A&M fans and students, who broke into chants of "SEC! SEC!" during Friday's summer graduation ceremony at Reed Arena in College Station, also embraced the idea."

NY times quoting an SEC official saying there's a 30-40% chance TAMU gets voted down.

Do we\can we kick TAMU out after this if they get shot down?

@ChuckCarltonDMN: NY Times quotes SEC official: 30 to 40 percent chance that presidents could vote against A&M's membership. Wow.

Big 12 with nine is still much stronger than the Big East or ACC. I think the nine will stick together and split up A&M's penalty.

The rivalries of the old Big 8 were something special and I think we can get there again if the remaining nine stick together. Nebraska, OU and Colorado were all football superpowers in the old Big 8. I think the SEC will regret their decision to expand and we could possibly see them break into two conferences within the next 10-15 years.

I think we HAVE to kick A&M out if the SEC votes them down. A stand needs to be taken.

If you want to show some strength and unity out of the Big 12, that's the way to do it.

They could always join TCU in the Big East.

I'm just joining in here, but are you sure this is a wise move? Where does this leave the B12 then? I would think you want as many quality teams as possible and aTm is definitely regarded higher than Rice, Houston, etc..

While I think it would be hilarious and fitting to vote aTm out of conference, it's a slippery slope - who's to say the Big 12 in the future doesn't decide to vote ISU out because we're taking up space that another school that can bring in more $$$ would better fill?

Does anyone know what the penalty is now for leaving the league? It went up, correct?

IMO, the Big 12 needs to raise it even more. Make it so high that nobody would ever think of leaving.

We may hate to admit it, but the 'safest' strategy for Iowa State is to tie ourselves to Texas no matter what happens.

ESPN and Texas will NOT let each other fail. And Texas will NOT go independent. And those who say Texas will drop the LHN to join the PAC12 obviously haven't been on campus in Austin lately. The mutual investment btwn ESPN and Texas is way to big for either side to give up on.

Say what you want about DeLoss Dodds, but he is going to be loyal to those who stick with him/Texas.

So basically we stick with Texas or..... pray for the Big East, hope for the Mtn West, but likely end up in the MAC..
Does that mean we have to lose our UT game this year?

If the SEC votes A&M down, the Big 12 won't kick them out. The Big 12 won't kick out a school like A&M from its membership.

Leagues don't kick out schools without cause. I would imagine that would never happen, or ISU would probably be able to sue.

A&M's inclusion in the Big 12 will only destabilize it further. Kick A&M out to punish them for their attempt to destroy the conference. Continue to expand. Look to BYU, Notre Dame, etc.

If you're wife tells you she's leaving for another man, packs her **** up and moves out, only to have him pre-emptively kick her out, you don't take her back. You can never trust her again. A&M has been coming to Big 12 meetings over the past year telling everyone they're on board and committed, and that clearly isn't the case.

Twitter

Teddy Greenstein says the Big Ten is not looking into any further expansion, regardless of what the SEC does. Big Ten is happy with 12 teams at the present time.

If the SEC turns A&M down, the Big 12 will surely keep A&M and keep the league at 10 teams.

The A&M fans will have a lot of egg on their face - that is satisfaction enough for me.

Exactly. If they get rejected by the SEC and you can get BYU into the league or even in a perfect world Notre Dame (snowballs shot in hell IMO) then you kick A&M out and show other schools that if you keep trying that **** you are not welcome back. Of course if you immediately take them back without any repercussions teams will continue whoring themselves around to other conferences.

That being said, if you can't get another good school to replace them then you have to take them back.

To play devil's advocate, texas went and hooked up with our friend (the pac) who we were supposed to be having tv negotiations with for a shared network at the time, only to decide the grass was greener here.
