*****The Super, Mega, Huge Big 12 Expansion Thread*****

Considering aTm has been discussing a move to the SEC since April 2010 and pledged to hold together the Big 12 for ten years later in the year, IMHO Aggieland is the villain if the Big 12 blows up, not Longhorn Nation. Talk about duplicity, how did they gain such an amazing ability to talk out both sides of their mouths simultaneously? My goodness! Sure UT and ESPN want to maximize the value of the LHN, but their seeming duplicity pales considerably when compared to what aTm is doing currently.

Even so, I feel UT and OU are going nowhere even if wined and dined by other conferences. UT has it too good with the Big 12 even if the PAC12 offers to convert the LHN to a regional network. In order to keep OU, I think UT will facilitate in some way OU's bid for its own network, and/or a Big 12 network. No facts to back this opinion, just gut feelings. UT needs OU to stay put in order to keep the Big 12 intact as emphasized by Chris Brown on KXNO during the Miller & Brinson show.

I read Frank the Tank's take on the Aggies pending(?) move. I have to agree with him on all points. How does the SEC monetize any expansion if their first and second tier TV rights are locked in until the 2020's? Seems to me none of the SEC member schools would want a smaller slice of the SEC's TV pie. Recruiting will be a boon for member schools, but will that be enough to warrant decreased TV revenue? My guess is no and no. Aggieland may be all hot to move, but the SEC seems to be much cooler towards the deal. Let's not forget the TX legislature's roll in all this chaos. I'm sure they will exert considerable influence on any TX schools leaving the Big 12 for another conference. As Frank wrote in his blog, no deal is a done deal until both parties are at the podium with signed papers in hand, and this deal is no rubber stamp by any means.

What happens if SEC doesn't take in TAMU? I don't think the B12 should take them back. Are there grounds to kick them out and let them fend for themselves?

can the big 12 do that?
I don't think UT would want to kick them out for all their duplicitous activities. TX A&M, as Frank wrote, is a very valuable school for any conference to have, and keeping them would be in the best interest of the Big 12 IMO. If the SEC rebuffs the Aggies, then they will have to keep their big mouths shut and play along with the rest of the conference.

Except for as was said last night, the A&M BOR is meeting Monday because their meeting only required a 3 day notice, while the higher ed commission meeting required a 5 day notice and was placed on Tuesday. The A&M BOR wanted to jump the gun to vote to get out before the TX legislature could do anything about it.

Seems awfully risky to me to put some of their hundred of millions in funding from the state at risk to avoid this meeting. Awfully selfish too, but that's what this whole thing is about isn't it...selfishness.

I work at A&M. The Legislature will NOT cut the budget. Why do I say that? Because we are already on a "bare bones" budget. Any further cuts will result in MASSIVE staff layoffs. They will not do it.

As a perspective. Two years ago I was paid 100% from State appropriations. Last year it was 95% and 5% from grant money. This year, all research staff are required to be paid a minimum of 45% of their salary from grant money. If their project could not afford that amount the staff member was let go.

Then the meeting Tuesday would have no teeth to it. I would be a little surprised with TX politicians holding no power in the matter, but I believe you.

Per Doug Gottlieb
High ranking source at Texas A&M confirms, going to SEC.Clemson,FSU,Missouri likely to join.

Big East invite is no longer a problem if Mizzou gone and Big East has only 7 FB members left after getting 2 poached by the ACC.

Big Ten, how many are you taking from the ACC?

Wouldn't stun me if they went after UNC and Duke as well.

This is getting really stupid. Not attacking your suggestions, just that these conference expansions suggestions/rumors are ridiculous.

Minnesota and Duke in the same conference? Missouri and Florida? Come on.

Can you imagine Missouri having to compete in the SEC west on a regular basis. Yikes.
