SEC Expansion: Texas A&M Officially Accepted As Conference's 13th Member - SBNation.com

Edit nvm, thought it said they were officially the 13th member, guess it says they are HOPEFUL they will be.

I think that's actually the most frustrating part, and I'm not blaming you.

We see unreliable people posting fiction all over Twitter, but saying "sources say" without mentioning that they often are apparently their own source.

Then you get a headline like the article you posted, and the conclusion seems pretty obvious, especially to people like us with an emotional investment in the story. This drives more traffic for them while they mislead a reading public hungry for news.

These "news" people are either exploiting people's emotions for their own selfish ends or they are completely incompetent in terms of reporting news, evaluating sources and information, and confirming that they have actual information to report.

The media side of this thing absolutely ticks me off.

This is really no different than the last week. They clearly accepted A&M last week. The offer was contingent on legal release. The release still has not occurred. He clearly says that he's hopeful that A&M will be the conference's 13th member. This is his way of keeping the press on. We're still at status quo as near as my reading comprehension skills ascertain.

They know that A&M will be the 13th member, but are not quite there yet...

SEC Official notice - Slive is speaking about it tonight - A&M Petitioned, thus didn't have to accept - SEC vote is officially accept them, but that legal issue still outstanding.:

Commisioner Slive Talks Conference Alignment > SEC > NEWS

Again, reading this, it tells everyone what we already knew...

"We remain optimistic that Texas A&M will be a member of the SEC and have started to look at schedules for 2012-13 involving 13 teams."

It's still not official, or he would have said...."it's official, Texas A&M IS the 13th member of the SEC." He's keeping the press on...

This has an interesting point about the Baylor legal threat - OU and other member teams may get that off the table anyway:

Conference Expansion: Oklahoma, Missouri Holding Regents Meetings; Tin Foil Hats On - SBNation.com

Clearly, in this day and age, reading comprehension is not at a premium. Most of these hacks writing these blogs/articles can look at a transcript and then write something that misses the mark completely.

While I don't doubt the A&M move is going to occur, there are players involved that are fanning the flames with soundbites and keeping themselves where they enjoy being....in the SPOTLIGHT....with nothing NEW to say. There still is no official press release from any entity involved clearly laying out anything new...

I believe the Missouri regent meeting was announced on Friday. It's possible they knew something was up then, but I don't think you can fully connect it to anything that supposedly happened today.

I really want to see a Big 12 and Big East merger. Call it the Big 16 and use the other 23 schools to keep Texas in line. If they don't play by the rules, kick them out.

A Big 12/Big East football merger is intriguing and makes too much sense. I'm sure Texas would be very happy getting their hands more into the east coast. This is assuming Mizzou leaves and WVU stays, but you could swap those too.

West - Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Kansas, KSU, ISU, Louisville
East - Cincy, Pitt, USF, Rutgers, Syracuse, UConn, WVU, TBD.

Really interesting if TBD is Notre Dame or BYU.
You could juggle things north/south too if you wished or some other way for better competitive balance.

So didn't anything actually happen today? I tried to catch up, but just started skimming about 8 pages ago after I read 3 worthless pages about super secret private messages.
