I think Izzo is about done. He's not getting done like he did a decade ago.
Yeah I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Even Luka on last nights broadcast admitted that. Sandfort to me would have to become a lot better in a lot of areas. He reminds me of a young Baer.
I agree. It seems the game may have passed him by a little. Some guys like him have adapted well, like Self who is a bit younger. Recruiting must have tailed off a bit too, compared to the Kentucky's Kansas', and Dukes of the world. They are kind of just another team from the Big 10 now. There is no difference between them and say, Wisconsin or Illinois, aside from the names and colors on their jerseys. They used to be a noticeable tier above the rest.
Don't think Sandfort has quite the athletic ability that Baer had, but he is a much better shooter.
It's really similar to Garza himself. An unheralded recruit who was average as a FR, became decent Big 10 player as a SO, then BOOMED into what he became. Murray is on a similar trajectory age-wise, with the year spent in prep school after high school. Fran is reaping the benefits of some high character kids with good work ethics, whether he is directly involved in their development or not is up for debate I suppose.
Good call on Sandfort. I guess I do see the limitations, average to below average athleticism and not the fleetest of foot and poor length, but I also see a guy who could torch some teams in the future. Kind of right-place-right time hustling type with good basketball instincts that also has a jump shot.
This team will be really fun next year if Brockington stays and we add another scoring wing. Need a big though too, so not sure where the scholarships come from. There will be movement, let's just hope Izaiah isn't one of them.
Can Perkins and Sandfort not play together? One is 6'7'' and the other is 6'4'', seems like they'd play different positions to me, or at least be able to be out there together in a position-less back court of sorts.
Also, I disagree on Toussaint. Uhlis has so much better measurables and his game translates better to the Big 10 than Joe's. I have always thought Joe would have to go to the Missouri Valley to get starter-type minutes consistently.
Fran has been awful about landing top talent so I guess he has been able to survive by identifying talent that other coaches don't see. I feel that has been his greatest strength.
You think UVA and Utah State are getting in? I'm am doubtful on Indiana too. That leaves one win against tourney teams.
Yeah, they're making hay in a league with a really soft middle and a horrible bottom. The OSU win was a good one though

I'm not so sure. He won't win it going away like Luka did last year, but he will be right near the top if he doesn't win it. I'm not sure I buy that he's NPOY, but I am more of the belief that a player that wins that award should be competing on a team that is ranked often and ranked highly, competing for one of the top 16 seeds in the tournament etc. Maybe I'm a little old school there, Idk.
This was a Torvik sort. I'd add Mich St as a tournament team (speeding towards the bubble though..) and take off Ut St and Michigan
UVA beats Duke tonight and they are likely back in the tourney conversations.
They definitely can and will sometimes play together. I don't think both will start though as Patrick and Kris will most certainly be the 3/4 starters next year. I think they will spell each other to start but will at times play together.
I disagree on Ulis over Toussaint. I think Ulis lacks any offensive identity. He's not a great penetrator, he has no jump shot at all whereas Joe has developed a off the dribble mid range shot. Ulis is more under control but he's so much more limited. Both are good defensively
We can't lose out. But I think one win and lose the rest and we'll land in Dayton.
If we go 3-1 with losing to Baylor, we’d play Texas as the 5 seed in the Big 12 Tournament. Win that and we’d likely get a 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
