I think Izzo is about done. He's not getting done like he did a decade ago. What has happened to Michigan State? Out of gas? Seems like they have lost their luster, whereas they were once considered the Kansas of the Big 10.
Yeah I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Even Luka on last nights broadcast admitted that. Sandfort to me would have to become a lot better in a lot of areas. He reminds me of a young Baer.Wish we could say this for sure, but did any of us - including Hawk fans - see Keegan morphing into the NCAA 1st Team guy after his good FR year? I think we all saw the potential there, but to think he would be this good would be missing the mark for most fans/observers. I bet someone else, and probably Kris, takes that monumental leap from good Big 10 player to All-American type status next year. Sandfort would be my 2nd vote, seems like he'll be a more aggressive/less athletic version of Joe Weiskamp for them for the next 3-4 years.
I agree. It seems the game may have passed him by a little. Some guys like him have adapted well, like Self who is a bit younger. Recruiting must have tailed off a bit too, compared to the Kentucky's Kansas', and Dukes of the world. They are kind of just another team from the Big 10 now. There is no difference between them and say, Wisconsin or Illinois, aside from the names and colors on their jerseys. They used to be a noticeable tier above the rest. It's almost like guys are tunning out Izzo. His teams don't seem to play with same intensity. New transfer rules may hurt him. His best teams always seemed to be guys that weren't quite pro ready as underclassmen but became really good players as juniors and seniors after few years in lesser roles.
Don't think Sandfort has quite the athletic ability that Baer had, but he is a much better shooter.Yeah I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Even Luka on last nights broadcast admitted that. Sandfort to me would have to become a lot better in a lot of areas. He reminds me of a young Baer.
It's really similar to Garza himself. An unheralded recruit who was average as a FR, became decent Big 10 player as a SO, then BOOMED into what he became. Murray is on a similar trajectory age-wise, with the year spent in prep school after high school. Fran is reaping the benefits of some high character kids with good work ethics, whether he is directly involved in their development or not is up for debate I suppose.Yeah I don’t think anyone saw this coming. This team will be really fun next year if Brockington stays and we add another scoring wing. Need a big though too, so not sure where the scholarships come from. There will be movement, let's just hope Izaiah isn't one of them.Gabe will stay. Hunters not going anywhere. I think Kunc stays. Conditt may move on but I know nothing to say definitively. Brockerington makes sense to move on but there’s been talk that he loves it here and loves being the guy. Who knows what he ends up doing.
Can Perkins and Sandfort not play together? One is 6'7'' and the other is 6'4'', seems like they'd play different positions to me, or at least be able to be out there together in a position-less back court of sorts. No I was listing where I thought they'd be on depth chart. Fran drives me nuts with Toussaint. I'm a big fan of his game I think he's a creator for guys in the halfcourt and plays really good defense. Especially helping in the lane. I thought Toussaint would play 28-30 minutes a game. I hope he's given more control next year but you're probably right he seems to like Ulis more.
Perkins definitely needs to improve his halfcourt game or skill set but he has big time physical tools that I think as he develops he will get better and better. Sandfort looks to have everything Perkins doesn't though. I think both will play about 20-25 a game next year sometimes together not certain which one starts though
Fran has been awful about landing top talent so I guess he has been able to survive by identifying talent that other coaches don't see. I feel that has been his greatest strength. It's really similar to Garza himself. An unheralded recruit who was average as a FR, became decent Big 10 player as a SO, then BOOMED into what he became. Good call on Sandfort. I guess I do see the limitations, average to below average athleticism and not the fleetest of foot and poor length, but I also see a guy who could torch some teams in the future. Kind of right-place-right time hustling type with good basketball instincts that also has a jump shot.
Iowa is a good 7-10 seed team. Against NCAA tournament teams this year. They are 4-6 and ranked #56 on Trovik

Yeah, they're making hay in a league with a really soft middle and a horrible bottom. The OSU win was a good one thoughYou think UVA and Utah State are getting in? I'm am doubtful on Indiana too. That leaves one win against tourney teams.

I'm not so sure. He won't win it going away like Luka did last year, but he will be right near the top if he doesn't win it. I'm not sure I buy that he's NPOY, but I am more of the belief that a player that wins that award should be competing on a team that is ranked often and ranked highly, competing for one of the top 16 seeds in the tournament etc. Maybe I'm a little old school there, Idk.Murray isn't winning a NPOTY.

They definitely can and will sometimes play together. I don't think both will start though as Patrick and Kris will most certainly be the 3/4 starters next year. I think they will spell each other to start but will at times play together. Can Perkins and Sandfort not play together? Also, I disagree on Toussaint. Uhlis has so much better measurables and his game translates better to the Big 10 than Joe's. I have always thought Joe would have to go to the Missouri Valley to get starter-type minutes consistently.
Bowen is #173 in the class. That's sad.1. Toussaint/Ulis/Bowen (frans best pg recruit yet)
2. Perkins/Sandfort - both have potential to take big step
3. Patrick/Connor
4. Kris
5. Rebracca/Mulvey/ogundele- I can't see ogundele ever being a big contributor
Do people feel like ISU is a lock at this point or do they need another W?
I think Iowa needs to win two more to be on the bubble and feel they might need three to be a lock.
If we go 3-1 with losing to Baylor, we’d play Texas as the 5 seed in the Big 12 Tournament. Win that and we’d likely get a 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. We can't lose out. But I think one win and lose the rest and we'll land in Dayton.
173 is pretty damn good for Fran. LOL...Bowen is #173 in the class. That's sad.
