The Fran fade

1. Toussaint/Ulis/Bowen (frans best pg recruit yet)

I truly don't mean this as a slight to the kid or anything, because I think Fran can identify some talent that is under the radar, but "Fran's best PG recruit yet" is not saying much. As a recruit anyway. Guys like Marble and Bohannon have turned into good players.

Completely fair. It was a low bar

Yes.

A small guard who is very limited offensively is not sought after by 90% of P6 schools for 15-25min.
Very limited? He can't shoot from 3. That's it, that's his weakness offensively there are no other physical limitations. Maybe mental ones but I'd argue he's improved in that aspect.

Your point was about 3 point shooting
I'm actually surprised that Hunter is shooting such a low percentage from three. I thought he was going to be better there. Do ISU fans think it is just a freshman thing and think he will improve a lot next year, or is he just a poor three point shooter?

I think it’s a freshman thing that will come along. Deeper line, tougher defense, etc.

If you watch several games, you will notice that our three point shooting isn't as bad as the numbers say. We aren't lighting it up, but our offense is so poor that we have players that are quite often launching Jobo type three pointers just to beat the shot clock. They aren't set and are just trying to make a play. Hunter has done this quite a bit. When he has a chance to catch and fire without worrying about just putting up something to hit, his shot is pretty solid.

Keegan is a really good player on a team loaded with 4 other mediocre starters. Couple that with a horrible non con schedule and a soft B1G schedule and you have a recipe for gaudy stats and POY considerations. Is he the best player in all of college basketball? No. But the sportswriters will roll with the numbers they are given.

Throw the Hoks in a better conference and Keegan would likely not be the POY in said conference. I'm not dogging on Murray... I like him. He's just not the best player in college.

I'm no NBA expert, so I have no clue on Keegan's draft possibilities. I'll leave that to the other posters more qualified than me.

Keegan’s a really good player. I’ve watched Iowa almost every game this year. I agree he’s not the best player in CBB but neither was Georges Niang. They’re both monumental players.

Keegan will get drafted quite high. Not sure if it’ll be lottery but it wouldn’t be surprised one bit.

Murray might finish 5th in his own conference for player of the year. Right now I think Cockburn and Davis are in front of him and Liddell and Ivey are really close as well.

I still can't get over the fact that Iowa was playing the blueblood of its conference, was retiring Garza's jersey, promoting FREE tickets PLUS bring a friend....and still couldn't sell out.

What was the scoop on free tickets? students?

Not sure, time will tell. He's improved throughout the season, and went on like a 0-20 streak earlier this season which is basically unrecoverable. He might be the best defensive PG in the country though so I'll take what we give up with his three point shooting and he's shooting 54% from 2 in conference play so he's improved there as well.

Yeah, you called it. But I don't think this was a surprise. Wasn't Iowa close to a double digit favorite?
What has happened to Michigan State? Out of gas? Seems like they have lost their luster, whereas they were once considered the Kansas of the Big 10.

It's almost like guys are tunning out Izzo. His teams don't seem to play with same intensity. New transfer rules may hurt him. His best teams always seemed to be guys that weren't quite pro ready as underclassmen but became really good players as juniors and seniors after few years in lesser roles.

Kris would be the next in line, but I don’t think he’s the same player as Keegan.
Wish we could say this for sure, but did any of us - including Hawk fans - see Keegan morphing into the NCAA 1st Team guy after his good FR year? I think we all saw the potential there, but to think he would be this good would be missing the mark for most fans/observers. I bet someone else, and probably Kris, takes that monumental leap from good Big 10 player to All-American type status next year. Sandfort would be my 2nd vote, seems like he'll be a more aggressive/less athletic version of Joe Weiskamp for them for the next 3-4 years.
