The Fran fade

Today….. was another fade.

23+ years and counting on getting to the second weekend. (12 years with the current failure).

An afterthought of a program.
It shall become the "Curse of Tom Davis" No future hawkeye team will make it to the second weekend until they retire his "whatever a coach gets" in the rafters.

This year we saw TJ kind of go all in on a specific playing style due to rebuilding a roster and the limitations that brings. Its worked well, got us to the tournament but it can limit our ceiling.

I feel like 12 years in at Iowa and Fran is still doing the same thing, except he's fully embraced a really risky playing and recruiting strategy instead of something a little more tournament friendly.

Iowa is a lot of window dressing that pretties up an average team. Fran gets tons of miles out of underrated guys but it can be a house of cards. You can end up getting pushed around by a middle of the road A-10 team, who has just as good of athletes as you. Yesterday shouldn't shock anyone who has followed Fran at Iowa.

Better from what I witnessed .

Really, there's not much difference between Kirk and Fran. They have a winning season and go to bowl games and NCAA tournament, and they get their fans and the school into thinking they'll have a special season. But neither one's system is going to get them into the college football playoffs or a deep run in the basketball tournament, They both do just enough to keep the school extending their contracts.
Modern day geniuses/white collar crooks.

I was surprised that Iowa didn't at least win one game. They were on a roll for the last 2 weeks.
Same, and to be even more fair, they had been pretty hot dating back to early Feb. I didn't even think this was a possibility given the way they were playing and the easy draw (Richmond nowhere close to an at-large bid, let alone 12 seed, then meh matchup against Providence in round 2).

To ensure optimal fairness once again, when a team "gets hot" playing no one with a defensive pulse - for months - it cannot surprise you when they lose to a team that plays with a defensive pulse.

This part...is this because of our roster or because this is the style TJ prefers? I am asking...curious. Winning is what matters at this level but the style we played this year was painful to watch at times. That said...I am thrilled to be looking forward to an ISU game today! So there is that!

Defense travels and defense is the easiest thing to coach up with hard practice over limited offensive talent. On a roster turnover, this was the smartest thing to implant or should I say to 'supplant' the offensive mindset which most players identify with.

His teams did not run this offense at SDSU with Mike Daum, time will tell if he's molding it to personnel or if he's intentionally playing at this pace

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it Green who's been instrumental with this "D"? So, it's more a matter of getting the right defensive mind in there.

Let's see if I get this straight.......our first year coach with his first year transfers and leftovers from last year has now gone as far in the tourney as Fran in his 12th year with the programs record 3 point shooter who is a 6 year senior in Bohannon, some say a first round pick in Murray, his two sons and a bunch of players who have been together for years? Does that sum it up?

Fran has had loaded rosters for years. Garza and Weiskamp ring a bell.... and now Murray. And the world's best 3 pt shooter the last 8 years.... don't forget him!

I would much rather have Fran than Otzelberger. It’s weird
Iowa will still have a better team than Iowa State next season even after losing Garza, Wieskamp, and Fredrick.
Iowa will compete for an NCAA Tournament appearance. Iowa State will probably compete for 9th place in the Big XII.
UNLV fans were begging Iowa State to hire Otzelberger. Not sure you want to get into a pissing match about which school has the better basketball coach.
