The Fran fade

Really, there's not much difference between Kirk and Fran. They have a winning season and go to bowl games and NCAA tournament, and they get their fans and the school into thinking they'll have a special season. But neither one's system is going to get them into the college football playoffs or a deep run in the basketball tournament, They both do just enough to keep the school extending their contracts.

All those Final Four picks smell like a carton of chicken livers left in the sun for about three days.

I would take Kirk's results for ISU football in a heartbeat. Especially if we were looking at a replacement because CMC left.

Fran's results are about 3x to 4x less than ISU's in basketball over the same time frame. I would be disappointed if we hired a new coach with Fran's 12 year run. Not horrible, but easy to try for better.

I think its very telling that Fran's staff has stayed intact. They aren't good enough to be wanted by anybody. I know their faces, but I've never cared to learn their names. At the very least, the administration should have demanded some sort of staff change at some point.

Yesterday on the radio it was mentioned that Fran was interested in the Vandy and Wake Forest jobs. And a possibility of St John's.

Weird.

In his tenure, the B1G has lost a blue blood they still haven't regained in Indiana, added Maryland who has also fallen from fringe elite at least 2nd tier status to Indiana Lite, NEBRASKA and Rutgers (probaby the only modest uptrend but only relatively speaking.

Penn State, NW, Minnesota should be nearly automatic wins. Ohio St is solid, but beatable. Same with Michigan after Bielein and Wisky after Bo Ryan. Illinois was BAD between Self's players leaving and Underwood. Purdue and Michigan State that's it, and MSU is definitely downtrending overall and their postseason success was always a bit of a surprise as far as blue bloods go...

Calling Fran mediocre is doing him a favor. He is both underwhelming and overrated...never a good combo and difficult to pull off.

Agreed. I just feel whenever Kirk's teams start to get in position to become a playoff contender, they lose to a team they shouldn't to shortly afterwards.

Today….. was another fade.

23+ years and counting on getting to the second weekend. (12 years with the current failure).

An afterthought of a program.
