The Band

lets just swap the pep band out for One Direction or something! Or a different live band every night. Maybe even get dave matthews to play for the big 4 tourney or something! and burn all the band members at the stake!!

edit: note:
1. sarcasm (or is it)
2. actually would be sweet
3. waste of wood

I feel like a lot of the posters in this thread would rather swap them out with an iPod dock and a wireless router, which is kind of sad.

If you think the band is just there to draw attention to themselves, what about the cheerleaders??? I mean, all they do is run out onto the court wearing skimpy outfits, jump up and down waving pom poms, and yell all the time. ReallY? What are they thinking? Do they really have to jump up after every basket? Come on. I'm there to watch a basketball game.

I think the students should check their phones at the door and be bumped up to the balcony if they're just standing around looking like a ******, but we don't all get what we want.

I believe what you are looking for is the ***Official Hilton Student Section Sucks 2012-13*** thread. If that hasn't been created yet, be patient, we are only a couple games in. This is the band sucks thread, so we need to keep this on topic.

I want old people to not leave with 5 minutes left to beat traffic.

As an old person, I have to say that at least at JTS, I'd be happy if the students didn't leave early. Went to the restroom with about 3 minutes left in TT game during a TV break, and almost got stampeded going back to hillside by the swarm of students leaving. On the flipside, I know a couple with very good seats and parking at JTS that always leave early and they are my age. I guess I'm thinking the leaving early thing is not determined by age.

The thread was started by students complaining that the band didn't fit in with how they wanted to experience a basketball game. Pointing out that they're not immune to annoying other people in the arena seemed valid.

We were losing and the game was effectively over. We don't lose at Hilton very often. I've never seen students flood the concourse at Hilton. It IS old people and it is lame. We could be beating Kansas and those same hags would be making their way up the stairs to get home 4 minutes earlier.

That is a completely different situation. By that point we had thrown our 80th int. and our offense had barely racked up 150 yards and we were down 11. Leaving a football game with 3 minutes to go when we are down 11 when we had done nothing all game is completely different than leaving a basketball game with 5 minutes to go when we are tied. (That really did happen last year)

Yea, I don't particularly agree with people that leave football games early, mostly because I'm a "to the bitter end" kind of guy, but it is different than basketball where the momentum of a game can switch so fast and points can be scored in a hurry.

I think pro-band and anti-band, we can all join together and declare that the concourse crowd at Hilton are the worst.

I stay at games until I am sure it is over. Basketball is definitely different, you could be down 10 with a minute to play and still win. Plus with basketball, you really don't sit in traffic too much no matter when you leave. There is less than a third of the people there.

If anyone saw the end of the Ohio State - Purdue game this year, you know why I never leave early. It was crazy. 10,000 people left and missed one of the most exciting finishes to a football game I've ever seen.

The thousands of students who do cowbell every football game disagree.

Theyre trying to bring that over to basketball. I'm not sure its working, but i won't fault them for trying.

To put this to rest. Cowbell at basketball games doesn't work. Today proved that.
