This is getting slightly ridiculous. I still can't tell if the band lining up arpund the student section and leading the "faster" chant is a sick joke. Also those knee slapping chants during the opposing teams free throws are becoming too much (The Ball is bigger than the hoop), all the laughing from those HILARIOUS little chants is making it so I can barely pay attention to the game. Was wondering what other people's thoughts were on the instrument carrying comedians?

Yeah... even as an alum of the band.. i'm not a big fan of those chants, theyre not that funny, especially the 800th time you hear them, and theyre really more dumb than anything.

As for the basketball version of cowbell... meh. Nice idea, but i'm not sure it really works.

This is the first positive thing I've ever said about the band.

Band >= CAC

I love The Band. Their self titled album was greats. Whispering Pines = amazing song.

As Charles Barkley would say, "Those chants are Turrrrrible".

I actually like the band. Their chants are lame, but they're interacting with the game and you can tell that they enjoy being there. The only thing i can't stand is playing the fight song 100 times during the game. It gets lame and it's more of an obligation.

I guess I've just kind of ignored that. I was annoyed with the timing of Cowbell though. Save that for a time when we aren't losing/playing poorly leading up to it.

Or when the student section is actually interested in who we are playing. They will be hard to hear when Hilton gets rocking.

For me the free throw chants are just tradition at this point. By and large, traditions are often things that are kind of dumb. And if you want to take it seriously the point isn't really that they are funny or will distract the shooter directly, but that the other team might hear them and think what in the world are they talking about.

Having said that, if they stopped doing them it wouldn't bother me, but I don't mind them either.

I'm drunks as chit but dudes the band is terribly annoying as they try to draw attention away from the game and pit the focus on them. Just be part of the crowd and play music.not be some special entity of Isu. If their crap continues all year it will be rough for us.

The chants are embarrassing and awful, and have been for years.

It's absolutely embarrassing. I don't think anyone would complain if they stuck to waiving their arms and yelling.

Man I do love "The Band."

It's been mentioned here before, but the band doesn't have much to say about how often they play fights, or when. Back in my day the director had more autonomy but much of the game is scripted out. I'm not sure if it's someone from the Hilton or the AD office. They even say when to play the "Play-Sing-Play" version of fights, so you pretty much know when it's coming.

The band doesn't like it any more than you do.

On TV the band and student section looked into the game, thats impressive for the 1st non-conference game of the year. I didn't hear the silly chants, but hopefully Hilton will be loud enough it won't matter anyway when it matters

The easiest way to not hear the band chanting during opponent's free throws is to make some noise yourself.
