Templeton Rye - Who's Finding It?

I struck out after several calls to places in DM. Called the in-laws in Clear Lake and they were able to get the last bottle from their liquor store about 15 minutes ago.
I think the key now for those in Des Moines is to call family and friends in smaller communities around Iowa and see if they can get it there.

Sauce in the ped mall in IC went through 10 cases in about 12 hours. Called a friend who works there and he stashed 2 for me. Sipping on some now.

I tried 6 stores today from Dahl's to Hy-Vee to Fareway and they either had sold out our were receiving shipments Thrus. I stopped at the Dahl's in Johnston 2 times today (11 and 12:30) and the shipment hadn't arrived yet. I called at 4:00 and they said their shipment came in at ~1:15 and sold out in 25min. I'm on a waiting list at one of the Hy-Vee's but I'm not holding my breath. Hard find in the Des Moines metro area.
The stuff in stores tastes like crap, I still prefer getting mine with duct tape on the bottle cap. It's actually aged right, about 7-12 yrs. Stuff in stores up till this year were only aged 3-4 years.
I agree. Not sure if everyone wants it because it is from Iowa or what? maybe it is the thrill of the hunt. Just another bottle of booze.
Looks like they have a new bottle too! I have two different bottles from this batch...well I have many more than that, but two are different. One is the same as the old bottle. The other is slightly larger and has the overlapping TR on the bottom. They now use wooden caps with fake cork. Writing on the back is a little bigger too...not that any of this matters because it still tastes the same.
I'm with ya there. It's alright but not something to wait this long or pay that much for a bottle of it. I should have bought a couple of cases today when I unloaded 10 cases off of the state truck and hoard them. I'm guessing I could have made a pretty penny off of you guys. Give me a bottle of Maker's Mark that stuff is way better.
You do realize people are allowed to have different tastes.....right? Doesn't make you right and the other person wrong.
I'm Maker's Mark fan too, but with a mixer. Templeton is different. Sip it straight, no ice, in a glass.
Not all of live in the area where the bootleggers still mix up their bathtub booze. I have had very good moonshine, and some absolutely terrible moonshine.
If you like the taste of a charcoal briquet flavored with corn syrup, then I agree, Maker's Mark is your booze of choice.
Of course, I'm biased, for I can't stand bourbon.
Not just another bottle. Bourbon turned me off of whiskey for the longest time, ya know, because of the awful flavor. Templeton Rye brought back my appreciation for fine spirits, and puts all bourbon to shame, because bourbon is junk.
The Ankeny Hy-Vee had 54-60 bottles this morning ( The manager would not confirm the actual number of bottles they recieved, he was a tool) and were sold out in 20 minutes. He did say that he had to call the State and complain because last night at 2:30 in the morning he was told they would not recieve any cases as Templeton Rye was already gone at the state liqour warehouse, but after he complained they managed to find him 9 or 10 cases. Sounds to me like Templeton Rya and the State might be making the shortfall themselves. Something fishy in the distribution if you ask me. Oh by the way they had a two bottle limit so half the line did not get any, me included, if they sold one bottle to each customer I belive all the line would have come away with at least one bottle.
If anyone would like to help a fellow Cyclone out and purchase/ship it to me, I'd be forever grateful. We can discuss payment terms and a finders fee as well. :smile:
I'm not driving to Chicago on the hope they have it in stock and you can't buy liquor online and have it shipped to Indiana. (We can't even buy alcohol on Sundays...backwards, I know.)
