No problem. I do think you guys will have your hands full in Cedar Falls this year. You escaped last year at home against them, but they are better this year.

Will you please spend the summer before the 2016 season on Iowa message boards? Bring your sig that brags about beating Kansas with you.

2016 will be the first time i cheered for iowa since i was a punk high school kid. Unless uni beats them this year, then who cares.

Like in the corner of that massive field you have in Ames?

Lol, you really dont like IC, do you? Dont blame ya, thats why we're rivals.

The advice about knowing someone vs. not knowing someone is pretty accurate. If you know someone with a lot pass, or a house, the tailgating is awesome. If you and a couple others are flying solo, there are a few options. You could either park downtown, hit up a bar, then bus/walk to the stadium (like judoka suggested). If not, my family (before I went to school there) would just drive down melrose and pay to park in someones lawn. The prices arent bad, and you can just pop the trunk open of your car, set everything up and party. I havnt been to a game this year yet, but I hear the lots havent been as nuts this year as they have been in the past. Granted, its ISU weekend, so it will probably be nuts. Lots a bit further from the stadium (Hancher, Law) are a pretty good time too, but you may have to walk a bit. Hope this helps!

One of us has the option to choose our tailgating preference. ISU could build a bunch of houses around the stadium. Hey then it would be the great atmosphere of iowa city. LOL

Of course, no one really wants that. It actually sucks, yep iowa city tailgating.

Not this week. Closed do to wet grass. Seriously. This will make the space crunch on Saturday exponentially worse.

I always love the ********g matches that threads like these inevitably devolve into. Everyone has their own anecdotal experiences that they think define each fanbase and gameday environment. For the record, several of the older Iowa fans in my tailgating group that follow the team all over the country, refuse to ever set foot in Ames due to poor treatment at past ISU-Iowa games. By no means do I think this defines your fanbase, but it certainly does for some people.

In terms of your fabled "pregame experience", I've been to probably 150 or so Iowa games, including 11 roadies, and the one time I was in Ames, it would rank right near the bottom in terms of awesome tailgating environments. It was totally lame. I've had much more fun tailgating at places like Northwestern, Indiana, and Minnesota, and for a few of those games total attendance was a fraction of what you typically get in Ames. This is just my personal experience. If you all enjoy it, great. I'll take my cramped, crowded yard in IC 100 times out of 100.

See picture of hawk fan that refuses to recognize something everyone else knows is obvious, iowa city tailgating sucks. The next thing you will say is ISU really isn't a bigger university. You would rather have your small university in Iowa city any day because there are more students. You guys have an inferiority complex.

Iowa city tailgating doesn't suck. It's unique.

No offense I have fun at Iowa state tailgating but it is basically the equivalent of a new Super wal Mart on the edge of town.

You gotta understand the context of what I said. I don't care if visitors have a good place to tailgate in IC. The pricing component is my bad, I gotta remember they give most stuff away in Ames to go watch that football team.....$99 season tickets, $50 parking for the year, Cyclone kids passes for free, etc. Economics is a simple thing, better product and more demand equals higher prices.

This is even more funny considering Iowa was giving away free tuition to get people to buy tickets. Oh little brother, one day big brother with pat you on the head and say it's okay. I feel sorry for your little university.

There is nothing unique about Iowa City tailgating. Its actually the norm at most colleges, very little room to tailgate and scattered all over the place. Of course, like many Hawk fans you act like you know what other venues are like but you have never been there.

Ticket sales for ISU 10M, Ticket sales for Iowa 21M. There is one school that should be laughing at ticket sales, but you got it backward.

Lets put it this way, NDSU, UNI, and FCS schools, every high school team in the nation are closer to ISU in ticket revenue, than ISU is to Iowa. ISU basically gives away every last seat in JTS. So you making fun of Iowa ticket sales is like Waukee high school making fun of ISU ticket sales.

Tailgating in Iowa City is awesome. Over the last 8 years we have had 3 different tailgating spots, each unique and great in their own ways. It takes time and effort to scope out the good tailgating spots. The goods ones are taken, and are expensive as well. Visitors coming into IC really can't get the good tailgating spots.

If it takes a special spot to be good for tailgating it's not a great tailgating atmosphere.

Seriously ISU fans think one big parking lot is da bomb for tailgating? That is like saying all you need is rows, and rows, and rows of production homes to have da awesome city.

Except everybody there doesn't cheer for Iowa while having never been to the campus. In their defense, can you go to a campus if said school doesn't have one?

Except it isn't just ISU fans that like ISU's tailgating. I was with two Hawk fans for Family Weekend last week and both said "ISU does tailgating right".

Those were two smart Hawk fans which doubles the number you've bumped into.

So alls I have to do is find 2 ISU fans who think Iowa tailgating is better?? Welp that is easy, cause every year I have several ISU friends who come down, and love our spot, and our set up and everything about IC better.

Either way it is a pointless debate. I've had plenty of fun in Ames tailgating, to say either sucks, is just stupid

Do you realize how long those neighborhoods and stadium have existed? They didnt pop up over night. Its an old neighborhood in an old part of town with a lot of tradition. Its not some stadium in the middle of a field. Just because its different than your boring, every thing the exact same experience, doenst make it wrong or bad. Fact is, Iowa and ISU tailgates are VASTLY different.... like, another planet different, and thats fine. Its an apples to oranges argument.

At the end of the day, tailgating is what you make of it. Ive had an awful, awful time in Ames, but Ive also had a fun time.

Also, I like how you guys think there is some sort of text book definition of tailgating. You do realize all it really is, is having some drinks and food, talking and enjoying yourselves before the game, right? Just because you arent LITERALLY sitting in the back of a pick up, or on your tailgate, doesnt mean you are doing it wrong. And even if that were the truth, there are TONS of people that do it that way too, but it doesnt matter. Some of you really sound like a bunch of whiny girls.

And, Im sorry, but you can have your one field, and one lot. Ill take my unique neighborhood with cool, different tailgates, every single time.

ONe last thing... Ive been on ours, and other teams message boards for a long, long time, and you guys, literally, are the only ones that think tailgating in IC sucks. The only ones. Sure there are some bad stories here and there, but the overall consensus is that IC is a good, fun place to be on a Saturday morning. Finding things to not like about it, like people not using a truck to do it (LOL) is just nitpicking and finding something to not like about it. Hell, you could even pull of lists of top tailgating spots around the country througout the years, and you will find IC in a decent amount of them.

Look, we all know we dont like each other, and its a rivalry, and I expect it, but just reading through here and seeing the reasons why you dont like it is literally making me laugh. The stadium is too far away from where you parked? Lol sorry there isnt a VIP spot for ya out front. People dont tailgate from their cars, they go to houses and party on the laws, thus not making it true tailgating? Haha what do you think tailgating is? I get harassed by opposing fans? Not condoning it, but IC is hardly the first place to have this happen. Jesus, some of you need to get over yourselves.

I'm happy this thread devolved into cyclone fans once again rising to their thrones as the great and only arbiters of fandom. Oh please mighty sirs tell me my fandom is approved and worthy.

LOL, doesnt that make each school unique?

ISU feels like a Chiefs game
