STEELE!!!

I just watched the highlights of the Iowa game again. Simply put, we can be a much better team with Steele than we can with JB. Steele just had a talent level that JB doesn't. Of course the flip side is that we can be a much worse team with Steele as well. Higher highs, lower lows....

Uh, no.

Some people are winners because they make plays when necessary and some aren't because they kill you with stupid mistakes.

ISU's season got a jump start when Barnett took over and ran the ball effectively. He beat much tougher competition than Jantz did and Jantz didn't look all that great in those wins either. Unforced fumble on 10 against Iowa, just can't make those mistakes. He about lost to UNI who wasn't a great team.

Jantz looked horrible in the bowl game. Threw the ball 10 feet over a couple of wide open receivers.

Barnett certainly had is bad moments too, but he always had the running game.

The only thing Jantz has over Barnett is he looks the part. You guys obviously don't get how much Barnett running the ball factors into ISU's offense. Jantz doesn't run upfield hard enough. Dances too much.

If Jantz is the quarterback, be prepared for an ugly season. Barnett may make some bad passes, but he gives ISU a much better running game and that is what made them successful last year.

Sounds like Jantz didn't look all that great in spring practice either.

Barnett should start and they should start getting Sam Richardson ready to be the next guy by giving him reps in practice. Jantz is there if Barnett gets hurt.

You are nuts man. Their performances last year were nearly equal. The question is which will, or can, improve the most before the 2012 Big 12 season.

Jantz is a better passer and scrambler. JB is better on the zone-read. I would take a hit to our running game if it means improvement to the passing game...(which long-term would improve the run game).

You better head to Pollards office and tell him that he is going to have to fire Rhoads and hire you, cause you are obviously smarter and deserve the pay more than he does.

Actually it's the other way around. A solid run game always improves the pass game, but a solid pass game has little impact on the run game.

We are doomed doomed I tell you!!!!:jimlad: Its spring ball a lot can change from now to first game this fall. I will say though just wish we had the starting qb already and not this every single year not knowing who it will be.

Snow- Barnett's 3 wins were against TERRIBLE defenses. You mention Steele's fumble against Iowa. How about Jared's against OSU? How fricken stupid was that 3rd quarter fumble, the fumble he recovered himself in the 4th, the INT in the 4th that should have cost us the game, and the dropped INT by OSU that also probably would have lost us the game.

I am still STUNNED at what people see in Jared Barnett. He did NOT jump start the season; the defense did.

Steele is a better athlete, a better thrower, and a better playmaker. His ceiling alone is why he should start. Jared sucked at KSU, he sucked against Rutgers, and he nearly sucked his way to getting us a loss against lowly Kansas. Anyone remember how ****** the O was that day!?!?

Steele's game against Iowa was one of the best performances by an ISU QB in the last 30 years, both statistically and from a playmaking perspective. If he doesn't make at least 10 amazing plays, we lose.

I think people tend to forget that Steele was still hurt after the uconn game and couldnt make the plays like he did before.

Run sets up the pass. Pass does not set up the run.

You've never heard of the saying, "The pass loosens up the defense"? Meaning, the better you pass, the less defenders there will be in the box.

Run draws defenders into the box and then there is more 1-1 coverage for the passing game. Just the opposite of what you are saying.

Also opens up play action.

You can say the same thing about Steele with UNI and UConn as you just did with Barnett with Kansas. Also, Steele having a very good game against Iowa last year was very much influenced by Iowa not bringing any pressure to him and almost never sending any blitzes. That performance was still against the worst Iowa d in years and it was a really bad d back in September. There is not much separating either of the qb's. Also, if Steele is going to reach is ceiling anytime soon he better real qick because he only has 1 year left in his career.

Agreed. I think most here realize proficiency in either has a positive impact on the other.

The singular mindset that the run game as the independent variable is archaic. The quickest way to make an above average run game poor is having a bad passing game (see last two years).

And great passing opens up the run because those same defenders that come into the box to stop the run, have to drop back in coverage. It works both ways there chief.

a good run game opens up the pass game and vice versa. in the spread offense, it will probably happen more that the pass opens the run, however
