Steele Jantz JUCO QB

FWIW, I heard Jeremy Crabtree on 1620 here in Omaha a couple weeks ago talking recruiting, and the first caller asked about o-line/d-line prospects for ISU. Crabtree basically said that the 2011 class is very thin at the DL position, and that most teams, other than the big names, were going to have to develop guys rather than recruit them.

Really, this is nothing new for ISU. There's only so many DL/DE to go around, this year fewer than usual, so we're going to have to move guys to the position and hopefully develop them.

This literally boggles my mind. If paul rhoads ever told me this (which he NEVER EVER would) i would hit him in the face for being our football coach.

Your telling me there aren't enough 6'4 225 pound kids in high school across the nation to come in and play defensive line? The hell there aren't!!!!!!
:realmad::realmad::realmad:

Heres the deal. We recruit these kids who are 6'0 tall and slow. W.T.F.
Then we proceed to not make them 1% stronger by their senior year. W.T.F.

*********AT LEAST THIS IS THE !CURRENT! CASE************

i will have to give CPR more time before i make judgement on his staff

No 6'4'' 225 pound seniors in high school that can step-up right away and possibly play DL at the Div I level.

So if this JUCO QB was here on a visit, was wearing a Cyclone jersey, and standing in that picture with other commits.......is it safe to say that he is currently a silent commit?

Exactly what I was thinking. Is he the only one in the picture that isn't committed yet?

well, if you want to recruit a guy who can compete at a high level when he's 19 years old, thats a different story.

I was referring to the 23 year old seniors who are benching 300, squatting 350 and still running slow and not explosively. That should not happen. Only if your coaching staff is completely incompetent.

Adding to your query,,, in an interview posted on Cyclone Sports Report (Scout), new commit, Donald Smith stated that he spent the weekend with six commited recruits.

This is idiotic. He has already said it is a very tough position to recruit and it takes development. now, go hit him tough guy. A guy who comes in at 225 will take AT LEAST two years to get to the right weight. Besides that, probably 50% will lose a ton of athleticism as they do that. Don't be a jack ***. What stupid post.

So it sounds like he is commited. Probably silent like everyone else is saying.

QB's are usually the most athletically gifted kids on the field. I'll take as many as we can get. Im more than willing to bet that Capello will be our QB next year. It should be a cy bookie bet.
Agreed, how do we get this on cy bookie?

This has to say something about confidence in Tiller and other QB's on the roster.

I would say if anything, it says the most about Tiller. I think our other guys are just too young (mostly Barnett). It would not surprise me if they brought in a juco guy that comes from a similar system to take the reins...much like Cam Newton...only legal.

i guess you can call me names all you want. but paul rhoads would agree with me.

how can anyone say "there isn't enough talented high school kids out there" ?

And you say they need at least 2 years? I totally agree.

And he wouldn't lose any athletic ability if he was trained properly.

And Im not being a jack *** by saying paul rhoads is an idiot if he acted and talked like an idiot. In fact I said he "NEVER EVER" was an idiot.

Actually, no, you're not being a jack***. Apparently you're being an idiot (or not reading very closely), however, because what the original quote was saying was that this year, there is only a very limited number of players in the 2011 class on the defensive line who are ready to contribute immediately, and thus players must be developed, by the programs who aren't the UT's, OU's (both notable DT hogs this year) and Alabamas of the college football landscape.

I'm pretty sure that Paul Rhoads would agree with that, given that even Keithen English is a 6'4" 310 lb project who would require a redshirt. He's scraping to find talent where he can.

Both Cleyon Laing and Jake McDonough, by the way, are examples of guys who took two years to work their way into the playing rotation, however, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

At the same time, you are saying, "We'll of course they'll take time to develop"....which is all that the Rivals expert was saying in the first place. Duh.

Sorry to add insult to injury...

I would be that we are recruiting Grady as an athlete. Could play a multitude of positions.
