Steele Jantz JUCO QB

Spoken like a true hippy JB.

The guys is coming from "California", you know "California"?

(I know you are a true rocker and not a hippy at all JB.)

Yeah, California- not necessarily San Francisco. Home of Hollywood stars turned republican politicians!

Hold on there, Hopp- just cuz a person has long hair don't make them a hippy!

In all seriousness though, this team NEEDS a quality quarterback that smells blood when he's in the red zone. They left waaay too many points on the board this year (and the year before that, etc).

Actually, Iowa State had one of the best redzone offenses in the nation up until AA got hurt.
And a lot of failures could be directed at stupid penalties in the red zone.

It wouldn't be a surprise to anyone on the staff to have Tiller move to WR if someone better proves themselves or comes in.

Jantz also went to school at Crespi Carmelite High School in Cali, same school as TE Peirce Richardson and OL Ben Loth.
Jantz broke his leg his senior year and D1 offers faded, he made the decision to head to Hawaii and walk on, and this all happened during a coaching change, so the coaches get there, and Steele is already on campus working his butt off.

Already on campus?

I don't think it's fair to speculate that he wasn't willing to work at Hawaii so he went JuCo. It seems like he was under recruited as a QB because teams wanted him as a safety, hence the walk on at Hawaii.
Since he was a walk on, Hawaii probably already had QB's lined up for the foreseeable future, hence limiting the PT for a kid who needed to work on his QB skills. Going JuCo was probably a great opportunity for the kid to get some reps and really improve as a QB. If he was raw coming out of HS, sitting at 3rd string behind full ride QB’s at Hawaii isn't going to get him the work he needs to get to his full potential. He seems to be lighting it up at JuCo and seems to have the athletic ability to play multiple positions. I think bringing him in is a win/win/win situation. If he is good enough to take over as the starter, win. If he is able to be a quality seasoned backup to whomever does start, win. If he gets beat out by multiple other QB’s in the system he can move to safety or WR or wherever, win.

Please don't cast aspersions on the kid if you don't know the full story.

Maybe you just don't like him because he is a long haired hippy? :jimlad:

This entire wbsite is built on speculation and opinion. I can assume that you know the "full story" because it not in your opinion that I do. So,the rest of us can rest assured that every statement you made in response to me is all truth. I don't know for sure that the kid is unwilling to compete. I think if Capello or Barnett or even Tiller decided to leave ISU if Jantz signs (one would then be the 3rd guy), the posts on here would reflect that they were unwilling to compete. If that's the case, what good would they have done for ISU football anyway. IMO, If you can't compete for the job, you won't compete on the field. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, BTW I wrote in my original post "that I hope he comes in and compete."

Also, how do you know that I am not a long-haired hippy? Or was that just speculation and opinion. My cowboy hat still fits.

A. The hippy part was a joke.
B. You said "I question his desire to compete." seemingly without taking his situation into account. I proposed possible scenarios of how hypothetically he could have left Hawaii for reasons other that not wanting to compete. I think it's a bit presumptuous to assume that he took the "easy route" to JuCo because it was too hard at Hawaii. It's very possible that he has become a much better QB while at JuCo. 33 added some insight stating that the kid broke his freaking leg his senior year. If he broke it bad enough, that could really set back his progress at Hawaii. So much so that maybe he wanted a fresh start at JuCo and a chance to prove himself.
Now, I am just stating my opinion. Maybe I should just go the negative route and "question his desire to compete" or assume the kid must suck because he had to walk on at Hawaii like some other posters.

I have read the same stories that you have read on the internet. So, I know just as much as you do. The kid had a chance to compete at QB chose not to because he knew the he would probably be 3rd. I also read that he would probably not be asked back to camp by the staff at Hawaii. (http://uhfootball.blogspot.com/2009/05/steele-jantz-to-transfer.html

So yes, it's my opinion that he MAY have had issues with competition at QB. Maybe Not. You have to remember that this kid was a 3-year varsity letterman so he is not used to sitting. But, so was Tiller, Capello, and Barnett. So, what will be your "opinion" if one of them left ISU under the same circumstances? Or, if Richardson decides to decommit?

I have also read that he is a great football player with lots of heart, drive, and determination. I'm just weighing everything and not getting overly excited until I see him enroll at ISU and be better than what we have at QB right now. Now, if he was as talented as Cam Newton, and he may be, I would camp out in the snow for season tickets. He may have become a better QB at JUCO. I couldn't say because I don't have any prior stats, video, etc. to compare it to. That makes the opportunity for a great QB battle even better. Or maybe there won't be a battle. He'll just come in and blow all of our QB's away because he's played JUCO. Whatever gets ISU the wins is good with me.

As far as his injury, I also remember that Barnett broke a collarbone and missed the last part of junior season and most of the senior off-season rehabbing. But he obviously came back very well because his senior stats were great, he led his team to a great season, he had several D-1 offers, and according to the sportswriters in Iowa, had a very good red-shirt season learning the system and running the scout team after returning to workouts. JT has come back from knee surgery, and Austen and ARob were less than 75% all season. So,we have/had guys on this team that's dealt with adversity. I don't set them apart.

I'm not being negative, just cautious. But, I trust CPR and his staff and if they feel they need Steele, I'm ok with that. Go Cyclones!

Some kids lose athletic ability when they add 50-60 lbs. Ask any S&C coordinator. If they didn't, we would have pumped ARob up to 260. Adrian Peterson would be coming in at 310. It's common sense.

theres a big difference between filling out and putting on massive amounts of extra weight.
