Stansbury Announcement

Well that’s interesting. Rivals has a big recruiting network so definitely a different toolbox to work with.

This tells me 1 of 2 things happened:

1) the split from CF was NOT amicable and they’ve all lied about that out of professional courtesy.

2) Stanz found the open market a very humbling place and this ended up being his best option out there

I tend to think #2 is what happened, but I agree with you that this is an interesting move.

I’m not in that line of work, but with college sports being such a big part of my life I can’t even imagine making this change. Rivals is a good step for Jared though. Will not be reading any besides the farmageddon content.

OR

I think the second is the most likely, but I’m really wondering about the first.

He started a Substack and said he was going to continue to cover Iowa State. So whatever he had planned when he left CF, if there was a plan, this is not it.

He gets to expand his network while still being fairly familiar with what he's covering. Kind of makes sense. Who knows what his long term goals are. I'm guessing he wants to stay in the area so your options are limited.

To me it was obvious something was off with the split. CW didn't mention him leaving for over a week and then did a 3 second good luck to him saying he was off to bigger and better things. The whole thing just seemed weird and off to me

He mentioned it on at least a podcast or two and seemed pretty gracious about it.

What I always found bizarre is that whenever Rob Gray left (maybe a couple years ago?) I read or heard zero mention of it anywhere on CF's side. Perhaps it was from Rob's Twitter feed that I learned about it, I don't remember. But I don't recall any sendoff or thanks of any kind. And lately CW has been almost over the top effusive in welcoming him back. Which is fine - Rob's a great writer and seems like a great guy - but seems a bit weird given his lack of sendoff before. (It's also totally possible I just missed something when Rob departed.)

I had the same reaction. For as long as they worked together you kind of would have expected something less abrupt. I don't know if there was more on other social media outlets, but Chris's post in #23 sure wasn't very flowery. It was really to the point.

Between that and popping as writing for the KSU Rivals it's hard to think something wasn't amiss. But who knows.

Jared had been working at CF for basically 10 years. He was an intern for awhile and went full time when he graduated in 2016.
In my opinion, he's just a soon-to-be 30 year-old man that decided to look for something different.

He didn't have some grand scheme to turn away from Iowa State and go to an in-conference rival.

From his farewell post -
I'll admit that I have not lined up a new job at this point, so we can stop the speculation on that front. I'm sure there are people who will ask why that is, and the answer is I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I'm likely to have more opportunities in media, but I very well might explore the other avenues of myself that I've yet to explore since I've been working for the same place since I was 19.

But that’s boring. I want to see some drama because I don’t have much else going on in my life. This is America after all

I agree,

He will always likely love Iowa State but like all professionals sometimes it simply is time to move on. He may have been limited on what he could do with CF.

How many of us have switched to the "enemy"? For example, my daughter is about the same age as Jared and is working for her third insurance company.
