Stansbury Announcement

Or he is building a portfolio of work that can be seen as diverse with quality.

I mean, I get it. I can see being young and wanting to experience something different. But announcing it on a random Tuesday to a very muted response from your long-time boss without any apparent employment lined up to only land in what appears to be a lateral move is a bit odd. But who knows and hopefully he's happy with the new gig.

we never know the stories or issues inside another persons head. It probably made since to do what he did when he did for where he was. When you're in the public, the public will overanalyze your decisions.

I had the same reaction. For as long as they worked together you kind of would have expected something less abrupt. I don't know if there was more on other social media outlets, but Chris's post in #23 sure wasn't very flowery. It was really to the point.

Between that and popping as writing for the KSU Rivals it's hard to think something wasn't amiss. But who knows.
I don’t know, I just reread chris’ post and it was short, but I didn’t read too much into it.

I feel like a lot of Chris’ posts (on the forum) are short/direct, so this didn’t really feel out of character

My take:

I don't think there's much to this. CF could have been a bit stagnant for him. Could have something to do with the girlfriend. Could be that he wanted to move out of Iowa.

From listening to him for years, and him being very open about how he conducts himself, I don't think this was a spur-of-the-moment move. Maybe the last straw fell quickly, but I believe him when he said he had been considering making a move for a long time.

Whatever his motive was, I don't think there's any juicy story about bad blood or anything. Life happens and sometimes you have to make a switch just to make a switch. I am NOT expecting any sort of Tyrese Hunter shade towards CF or Iowa State in general.

He probably picked KState because of Bruce Weber (kidding, kind of)

It really could just be as simple as him wanting to experience life outside of central Iowa. I wonder if you could cover KState from KC?

On the other hand, I always thought it was weird he had a completely clean break. If he was just leaving the industry/going solo I would have thought he still would/could still do podcasts for Iowa Everywhere or CF even if he wasn't managing editor anymore.

Be no different than the Register covering Iowa. Although he'd probably want to be closer and live in Topeka. Then you have about Des Moines-Ames distance.

He sure seemed really quiet/depressed about it on "The Drive" on KXNO when he was cohosting. He'd just sort of shut down once anything came up around CW or Cyclone Fanatic. Thought he might of been having second thoughts or something

I get this.

He may really have liked his job but knew it was time to move on. Thus, his somberness. I have been there.

I personally tend to find the next gig before leaving the current one, but I have colleagues that knew it was time to move on and quit one gig and then spent time to find the next one.

If you can afford it and are willing to take the risk, the latter strategy is likely best. It is work to apply for jobs. If your job is to find a job you can do so with better clarity rather than fitting it in during lunch breaks.

Wish Jared the best, but the only thing worse than going to a conference rival would be had he gone to cover the Hawks.

And for those who think it's because he wanted to cheer for Iowa State finally, rather than be a neutral journalist, I actually don't know how big of a Cyclone fan he is. It always seemed like Iowa State was 2 or at most 1b to the huskers

CF has been his only real job, if you call this one... good luck to him. He prob needs more money and growth, but i don't miss his podcasts and having every comment ending with "fur sure...(awkward silence)".

I think you guys are reading too much into this. It’s a job. While it’s bizarre that it’s an ISU rival, he’s got bills to pay like the rest of us.

Honestly I would’ve been less surprised if he had moved to cover Nebraska in some capacity.
