You can add capacity without building a thing, remember. How many "seats" are currently in each section row of JTS? Reduce the width by 1" or 2" and you might be able to add a significant number of seats throughout the stadium, good sections and bad. And it costs virtually nothing to the AD.
This has been shot down multiple times, but yes, this is a terrible idea. Overcrowding in upper deck sections is already a huge issue with some of our larger fans.
i dont think they want to move the students. the band stays with the students and vice versa. And i just think they dont want to move the band from their current spot. Also i think the closer the students are to all that sound from the megatron is the way it should be.
Did you actually look at the math I ran? There is a
significant, and I do mean SIGNIFICANT opportunity cost to leaving the students where they are. The upper deck of the student section extends all the way to the 40 yard line. These are PREMIUM seats and we're taking a bath on them by selling them to non-donating students at deeply discounted prices.
Jamie has shown himself to be quite cognizant of the fact that students are a very important part of the gameday atmosphere, and I agree. However, with the dollars sitting on the table here, make no mistake: the students WILL be moved as soon as there's a better place to put them. We're talking up to $2 million in additional revenue.
Do you want Iowa State to make $2 million annually in additional revenue?
Or are you more concerned with keeping the students close to the band?
The band is already being mic'd and is amplified through the scoreboard's sound system. The students will be able to hear and feed off the band no matter where they are in the stadium.
Yes, Jamie paid to send a pep band to Berkeley for the volleyball tournament. Yes, Jamie helped subsidize the cost of student tickets to the bowl game. Jamie loves the students and the band and has put his money where his mouth is.
However, none of these decisions come close to $2 mil annually... and it's not like we're forcing the students out of the stadium... we will create a very loud, very intimidating south end zone and spread out the enthusiasm of the students and the band.
