South EndZone

Threads talking about bowling the SEZ never die... New rumor or same old stuff? And why the side discussion on whether our uni's look like USC?

Does anybody know if the press box is in the Athletic Department's plans or just the hopes and dreams of fanatics everywhere? The way I look at it, we have suites between the upper and lower bowls which a lot of stadiums don't have. The stadiums that don't have those have more of a need for a large press box that we don't have. In saying that a press box that is longer and would look less comically small compared to the rest of the stadium would be nice.

A two level press box like this with a south endzone ike va tech would be sweet. How much would we need to expand if we ever wanted to put actual seats in the entire stadium and have a capacity of 60k?

All I want it 60,000 physical seats and somehow get small bleachers to tie into the bands bleachers all the way accross the north endzone. with a couple outlets for the teams to come out of and no more hills.
That way we finally get 360 seating. We are contantly getting 50-55K now as a .500 team.

Find a way to get GA Lil Cyclone seating somewhere in the stadium (as long as the kids are ok with not playing tackle football anymore)

IF they moved the students into the south endzone they could easily increase normal capacity by taking an inch or 2 off each seat in just that section. They stand on top of each other anyway....lol

Not sure I care about the visitor section being next to the students or not. You could always create a buffer section or something.

People in our row already bring an extra adult to sit in their couple seats (fit 3 people into 2 seats); shrinking seats would be a terrible idea.
People in your row need to buy another ticket.

JTS does not need a press box or sez. It was already named the best field in Ameirica :)

Someone call me when Kinnick wins anything that cool.

If it doesn't need a SEZ than why have they been trying to get it built since the stadium was built? When you are relying on people sitting on the grass to satisfy your capacity you don't have an adequate solution.

While I agree that shrinking seats would be a bad idea, its not because of people who sneak an extra person into a row for free. **** those people.

On the press box, I ask this as a serious question... is ISU's press box not big enough? I guess I have never seen or heard any complaints on its size. Most schools who increase the size of their press box do so for the purposes of adding suites. ISU does not seem to have a shortage of suites, and if they did, it would seem to make more sense to add them to the east side, and move the students into the SEZ.

I had this problem since my two tickets are on the aisle. My wife and I were always getting squeezed out so I just buy one seat back for the inside seat to mark our territory. Works well for us and the wife likes the seat back.

You can add capacity without building a thing, remember. How many "seats" are currently in each section row of JTS? Reduce the width by 1" or 2" and you might be able to add a significant number of seats throughout the stadium, good sections and bad. And it costs virtually nothing to the AD.

This has been shot down multiple times, but yes, this is a terrible idea. Overcrowding in upper deck sections is already a huge issue with some of our larger fans.

i dont think they want to move the students. the band stays with the students and vice versa. And i just think they dont want to move the band from their current spot. Also i think the closer the students are to all that sound from the megatron is the way it should be.

Did you actually look at the math I ran? There is a significant, and I do mean SIGNIFICANT opportunity cost to leaving the students where they are. The upper deck of the student section extends all the way to the 40 yard line. These are PREMIUM seats and we're taking a bath on them by selling them to non-donating students at deeply discounted prices.

Jamie has shown himself to be quite cognizant of the fact that students are a very important part of the gameday atmosphere, and I agree. However, with the dollars sitting on the table here, make no mistake: the students WILL be moved as soon as there's a better place to put them. We're talking up to $2 million in additional revenue.

Do you want Iowa State to make $2 million annually in additional revenue?
Or are you more concerned with keeping the students close to the band?

The band is already being mic'd and is amplified through the scoreboard's sound system. The students will be able to hear and feed off the band no matter where they are in the stadium.

Yes, Jamie paid to send a pep band to Berkeley for the volleyball tournament. Yes, Jamie helped subsidize the cost of student tickets to the bowl game. Jamie loves the students and the band and has put his money where his mouth is.

However, none of these decisions come close to $2 mil annually... and it's not like we're forcing the students out of the stadium... we will create a very loud, very intimidating south end zone and spread out the enthusiasm of the students and the band.

It is useless to complain about reducing seat widths unless we know how wide the seats are set at JTS in the first place. Does anybody know?

The NFL standard for general admission seating is 19 inches. 21 inches for club seating.

After the first game this year, we bought seat backs.

My guess would be about 2 feet.
