Nice. You have no idea how much I contribute to this university. If you're happy competing with KU for the crappiest FB stadium in the Big 12, so be it. Might explain why the North Grand Mall still stands today. No growth Ames...

JTS is better then KU's Memorial Stadium hands down. Anyone that has been there, knows that.

Hope we do it soon....embarrassing that many Texas HS stadiums have better digs.

...and yes...I do donate as much as I can every year before someone posts it.

If you believe that, then you are truly an idiot.

I have a feeling that this thing is closer than we realize. Yes, construction costs are down, and our revenue is up. But I believe that.a few donors and the university are ready to drive this ahead with our current capacity.

interesting correlation: record football attendance / record student enrollment.

I believe that next year we will have many games where you will not be able to buy a ticket.

There are some nice high school stadiums in TX. Allen has the nicest I've seen and you can do a Google image search to see it. Southlake Carrol has a nice one too. But they're nice only in their design, and still nowhere as nice as JTS. And at our own level I still don't think that Snyder Memorial is as nice as JTS.

HAHA! Lost all credibility there!

You are listening to too many of your idiot hawkeye friends and their weak smack.

This is the best there is in Tx, and it looks more like Coe College, than College Station . As a fellow Cyclone fan, all I can say is, stop repeating stupid $h1t like this.

Just curious, but what ducks? Salaries?
The last comments I heard from JP on this were that, to do this project right, it would be in the $50 million range and we just couldn't take on that much new debt at this time. I would expect a campaign to pay off existing debts before the SEZ happens. Could still happen in the next few years, IMO, but I don't expect an announcement anytime soon unless there's been some major donor action that hasn't been announced yet.

Yes, a new SEZ would be cool. However, for now, I like Jack Trice Stadium. It is a great venue that fits us well. Of course, we need to move forward at some point, but don't think it will happen without a big ticket price increase! Right now, the SEZ and hillsides are an incredible bargain. I love being able to take my family and friends at an affordable cost. Not looking forward to paying for the SEZ with increased season ticket prices.

You have to think that ticket price increases will be required in many areas.

The sad fact is that while we are well north of averaging 50,000/game, we have a long way to go on income per seat.

Last I saw the numbers only 12-13,000 (est) were actually paying full price season tickets. This means at 40,000 total sold season tickets, of these 2/3 to 3/4 are paying for cheaper packages, etc...

While I hope our full prices season ticket sales have (and continue to grow), to compete long term there will need to be more per seat revenue.

The sad fact is we are competitive with B12 pricing on comparable full price season tickets (with donations factored in), but we have build the attendance at a discount.

Nothing wrong with this from a marketing perspective, however, when several thousand of your season tickets are really Jr. Cyclyone club memberships we need to also have to factor in how inexpensive some of our seating really is and how far we have to go.

I realize we all want to pay as little as possible, while maximizing our enjoyment level, but this is the toxic mindset that has always plagued Iowa State's fanbase. There are a significant number of fans who put a higher priority on affordability, and "family atmosphere" than we do on improving our revenues in the Big 12, and keeping up in the never-ending arms race of facilities.

Are you more concerned with winning, or "family atmosphere" and "affordability"? I am not saying these things are entirely mutually exclusive, but it comes down to placing your priorities.

When Jamie Pollard came on board, our revenues were at the bottom of the Big 12 in practically every statistic that you could possibly measure... but we had a great "family atmosphere" and our tickets were the most "affordable" in the Big 12!

I am not saying we need to gouge and price out our fans, but we need to keep up with the Joneses.

Ask yourself a question: do you want to truly be competitive in the Big 12? That requires higher revenues, better facilities, and more resources. These things all cost money, and lots of it.

Would you rather pay $60 per football game and go 8-4?
Or would you rather pay $40 per football game and go 4-8?

Despite the rise of ticket prices in the Pollard era, Iowa State's attendance has seen a commensurate increase too. This tells me that our fan base puts a higher premium on enjoying the overall experience than they do the pure face value of the ticket -- they'll pay more as long as they enjoy the product. We have not seen a negative correlation of ticket pricing to attendance, yet. Is there a breaking point? Sure there is: if the on-field product regresses or significantly plateaus while ticket pricing continues to rise, attendance will fall. There's not a lot of reason to expect that to happen: ticket pricing will almost certainly stay the same for 2013 (since we have fewer home games, it's an easy way to sneak in a de-facto price increase), and we have reason to be optimistic for on-field results as well.

Keep in mind the state of Iowa, and the Des Moines metro in particular are significantly healthier from an economic standpoint than the rest of the country.

I am not attacking you directly, Cycsk, but this is a mindset that Jamie Pollard has been working to fight since the day he started on the job.

Winning requires recruiting.
Recruiting requires better facilities than the other guys.
Facilities require money.
Football ticket sales are the primary revenue stream of our athletics department.

The other guys aren't sitting still. If you sit still, you're moving backwards.

We all want to pay as little as possible... that's only human. But I also want to see Iowa State be competitive and win championships in my lifetime. If we all have to pay a little more to get there... so be it. We have to keep up with the other guys or we'll be left behind. This is bigger than any one of us.

I was thinking some of the same things as I wrote my comments. On a very personal level, I really like what we have now. And if it weren't for all the other things around us, I would be very happy. However, I do want us to go to the next level. So far, those advances have been paid largely by TV contracts. We, myself included, have stepped up in terms of season tickets. I've gone from 2 to 6 to 8 in the SEZ. It will be a little sad (maybe nostalgic is a better word) when we bowl in the endzone and ticket prices go up, but I recognize that it needs to happen. In other threads, I've given my rationale for the criteria that I think will need to be met for it to happen. This morning, I'm just feeling a little nostalgic for the good ol' endzone section.

You heard it here first. If we don't go 10-2 next season, we will all know that isufan is a ******* cheapskate with a complete falsehood for a username.

I'm not attacking you, but just wanting to demonstrate a point. Even with your increase in quantity, the face value of your tickets are still 33% of full face value.

I only purchase three full priced tickets, but this is how our total season ticket contribution alone compares:

$375 x 3 = $1125
$125 x 8 = $1000

Lest we forget, my tickets require a yearly donation and aren't all that better of seats: 15 yard line vs. end zone.

This is the problem with seating allocation at Jack Trice Stadium.

Regarding the South End Zone. IMO, we will likely bowl it in about 3 years or so. The Hillside seats that were $99 in South are now $150. Keep North Grass at $99. Keep the rates the same for a year or two and continue to grow the base. Then increase the season ticket costs by $25 apiece. That would raise an additional $1.5 million per year. Plus the modest increase we would get from hillsides on South.

The bottom line is that we want to keep the stadium full. We do not want to price ourselves out. Because there is a goldmine in the area of licensed merchandise to tap into as well. Plus the media revenue.

Exciting times for ISU football. We are making the incremental steps that we need.
