Should Morris Start Over Thomas?

I really do think the staff likes Naz coming in as that 6th guy. And several games he ends up playing more minutes anyways than Matt. The last time I concentrated on watching Morris, think it was vs. George Mason, he made a lazy pass to the post which was stolen and then penetrated out of control and turned it over or got a charging foul. Still his low TO/min stats speak for themselves. Just saying, he still makes freshmen mistakes, too. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it almost seems like Matt just needs to embrace more all the advice/coaching that CFH and the staff can offer him. So different than being the main dog on a high school team that dominated most teams and played zone all game. Will be fun to see him play when the full light goes on.

I think morris should start just to take the pressure off of Kane, they wouldnt be able to drop back as much. Plus Thomas' D is fairly poor

Matt Thomas will start 4 years at ISU barring injury (yes..even if RV comes next year as well).

He is a very solid player and will only continue to get better.

Do I hear an echo in here?

Thomas' defense really doesn't seem all that bad to me...I think some people just assume that white guys are bad at defense.

I think people are assuming it's bad or it should be because he hadn't played man to man before. We are playing well and Thomas hasn't really hit a grove yet offensively. However, teams know he's a good 3pt shooter, even if he hasn't really shown it yet. Don't think teams don't take that into account. Teams remembering means they won't let up on him, and that helps the rest of the team because they can't leave him open

I trust Fred more a group of fans that didn't play at this level or coach. #OPfail.

Thomas is averaging 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and only .6 turnovers while playing 27.9 minutes per game and people want a change? All Thomas needs to do to be even better is shoot it without hesitating. For whatever reason he doesn't seem confident yet and he's still averaging almost 10 points per game. Thomas should and will continue to start.

Citing Thomas' season long statistics doesn't really make much sense here. This question is brought up because in the last 5 games Thomas is down to like 4 ppg on 30% shooting or something similar, while his minutes are down as well.

Of the tougher games, the only one he really played that well in was BYU; Iowa, Boise St, Mich were all fairly forgetable for him ( at least numbers-wise).

EDIT: Oops, just realized I responded to a 2 week old post. Leaving it but ignore.

That said, I think he still starts, and Naz just gets more minutes if game situations warrant.

Also, it may not be his (Thomas) defense as a whole, but he gets blatantly burned on a quick first step at least a couple times every game.

I really think arguing whether if Morris or Thomas starts is really not cool. Who cares? I think Matt Thomas will be a great player for us in the years to come...

Nothing is set in stone. If Naz or Monte earn the starting spot in practice I'm sure Hoiberg will consider a change.

We've been getting off to a slow start in virtually every game, we need our best 5 out there no matter who it is.

Last time I checked shooting guard should be able to shoot. Thomas is recruited as a lights out shooter and he and has to be respected from long range. Morris is more of a cutter/distributor. Every time Thomas shoot a 3, I expect it to go in. Every time Morris shoots a 3, I am hoping it goes in.
