Should Morris Start Over Thomas?

I'm in the start Thomas camp, especially since Naz is so reliable off of the bench. However, I thought it was interesting that Morris came in after Long fouled out, and Thomas stayed on the bench.

If you watched the game, you know why. He needs to develop more of a Kane attitude and stress the defense. Passing the ball around put no pressure on the Hoks. Matt has such a good mid range shot, that he needs to drive and use it. He is just going through a transition. He will be more aggressive in the future like Thuglife.

Maybe I should have said telling instead of interesting.

To the original question........NO.

First of all, the team is 8-0 with Thomas starting, so why mess with it? Second, he needs the experience as much, if not even more than Monte does. I think it is critical that Matt finds his shot and gets comfortable shooting on the Division I level. Monte needs experience too, but I think he is further along and better prepared for this level right now than Matt. Matt also needs as much experience as possible to work on his defense.

I'll trust the Mayor on this. I sort of think it might depend on matchups if it were my call, but not sure if that messes up tempo and flow to always be changing it around.

Kane is going a great job of getting to the rim, don’t need another in the lineup. need a threat from deep

Eh, I want to see Thomas' numbers improve. He might be averaging 10 points a game, but I don't think they are an efficient 10 points. 35% from 3, 41% from the floor and 61% from the charity stripe. If he is our best shooter, I have to see those numbers improve.

He's only played in 8 college games...games that count...he will improve, I guarantee it.

I have a feeling these threads will pop up after every game he (Thomas) struggles this year. After the Michigan game we had the same thread asking if he should start. Matt than goes on the road and was maybe our MVP of the 2nd half. He had 12 points and 6 big rebounds.

He's a freshman. He will play great in some games and be lost in others. It's normal. You just have to allow your freshmen to grow through the pains. I'd rather these threads not happen.
This.
Thomas is averaging 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and only .6 turnovers while playing 27.9 minutes per game and people want a change? All Thomas needs to do to be even better is shoot it without hesitating. For whatever reason he doesn't seem confident yet and he's still averaging almost 10 points per game. Thomas should and will continue to start.
And especially this.

Possibly the one argument for a lineup shift is the slow starts rather than the relative merits of the starters and bench players. I don't think there is any reason to change up the overall minutes unless it relates to match ups (which I see as the only reason that Thomas saw his minutes limited vs Iowa).

I heard Fred was going to shake things up to try to improve Iowa State's 1.000 winning percentage.

Maybe a better question would be, does the team get off to quicker starts if Naz starts?

Didn't be start against Michigan while Ejim came off the bench? We had a slow start in that game. If I remember right, we had a slow start in our first game too, and Long started. I think the slow starts are more of a combined team thing, not just a Thomas thing.

Absolutely right on Mr. Gray.

This would be different because it would have Ejim and Long. I don't have a problem with Thomas starting or anything but this is a valid question. Thomas needs to be more confident and actually shoot the three. It will click for him we just need to be patient.

Just looking for a friendly debate.

Should CFH shuffle his starting lineup? We are undefeated, so why mess with success. But Thomas seems to be struggling with his shot and we appear to be a better defensive team and our ball movement better with Morris at PG vs. Kane. Moving Thomas to the bench would not be a confidence builder for the freshman, but one could argue that Naz Long has been a better shot from 3. I have also been impressed with Dorsey-Walkers defense in limited minutes and it would be nice to see him get more minutes in the next 4 games.

If any change happens, it's Naz for Thomas. But I think Fred likes a solid 6th man so it stays the same. I bet Thomas will always start this year to insure confidence.

I'm a supporter of Thomas starting too, and I wouldn't have even asked the question but I think that is what you do on a message board when your next game is 7 days away against a mid-major

Now that Niang is rolling, I could see CFH trying to get Thomas or Kane rolling early on the offensive end in Hawaii.

Thomas has been good in all the games that there was no hype. He has been bad in all the games with a lot of hype, except for the 2nd half of the BYU game. He also is a defensive liability IMO.

He is averaging 12.8 ppg and shooting 17/34(50%) in games against UNC Wilmington, Texas A&M-CC, UMKC, and Auburn.

He is averaging 6.0 ppg and shooting 9/28(32%) in games against Michigan, BYU, UNI, and Iowa.

Monte is the same way. Playing well in games with no hype and not playing well in games with a lot of hype. He takes great care of the ball, and like someone else said we need a PG that comes off the bench in case Kane needs a blow or gets in foul trouble.

He is averaging 10.8 ppg and shooting 11/23(48%) in games against UNC Wilmington, Texas A&M-CC, UMKC, and Auburn.

He is averaging 3.0 ppg and shooting 4/16(25%) in games against Michigan, BYU, UNI, and Iowa.

Naz on the other hand is playing great in games with little hype, and playing well in games with a lot of hype. He also plays above average defense and he hit big time shots in the Michigan and Iowa games.

He is averaging 11.5 ppg and shooting 16/26(62%) in games against UNC Wilmington, Texas A&M-CC, UMKC, and Auburn.

He is averaging 9.3 ppg and shooting 12/23(52%) in games against Michigan, BYU, UNI, and Iowa.

At this point I think it's a no brainer that Naz should be starting.
