Rhoads> Ferentz???

Because recruiting is not the same thing as the game passing him by, which was your argument, IIRC. It's all the other stuff that has nothing to do with football (social media, etc.) that has passed him by. That kind of stuff is important to today's kids, and Ferentz is more old school. But he has no less of a grasp on the game itself than he did 10 years ago.

My argument was that I think he used to be a good coach and I don't think he is anymore. Things have changed in college FB and so far he has refused to accept that or adapt his style of play. I know a lot of fans that think he's a great coach and that's fine but when people admit he is not a good gameday coach and he hasn't been recruiting well recently it's kind of hard to defend him over the last few seasons...

He doesn't have to adapt his style of play. The system isn't what's causing them to struggle (Alabama run the same basic schemes). It's the quality of player running it.

Bear in mind, I'd still take Rhoads over Ferentz at this point.

I hear ya, but if you don't have the horses to run the offense don't you think its time to adapt?

Like I said earlier, I think the GD hire was an effort to change things up a little. I'm hopeful that this year will see better results than last year. Nobody seemed too comfortable in the system last year, including a few of the assistant coaches (according to rumors, anyway). That's where I'm hoping the Kennedy hire will pay off a little.

Why hire GD to change things up a little if you are going to make him run the same offense that's been ran for 13 years?

That's kind of funny. Once looked at the revolting HN boards -- what on earth is Jon Miller thinking?

I don't hardly ever look at HN except when truly bored. Once he split and went his own way, the inmates took over the asylum. But I'm a member of Hawkeye Report, and that's much better. HN is truly a train wreck. Don't know what Jon Miller's thinking- but not good over there.

That wasn't the same offense. It was more of a hybrid of the two styles than anything. But KOK took a lot of shots downfield. Iowa didn't do that too often last year.

I guess I didn't watch all the games or watch that closely but it sure looked the same to me. Throwing short of the sticks has kinda been a KF thing since he's been there

LOL if your system requires NFL talent at almost every position to work, you need to change your system. Even when Ferentz had a loaded team with an NFL QB and multiple NFL draft picks on the D-Line he still only managed to go 7-5.

As an ISU fan, I was frequently impressed with KOK's play-calling, especially with a couple beatdowns on ISU. I told my Hawkeye friends I liked his play-calling most of the time I watched Iowa, and I didn't understand the hate directed toward his game-management and strategy. I thought one problem Iowa had was several time-management/clock issues that lost them a few games over recent seasons. I told my Hawk friends be careful what you wish for when Iowa hired Greg Davis--that they might miss KOK
