1. The GD hire, IMO, was an effort to shake things up a little. It clearly didn't work last year. Maybe it will work better with a fresh face under center and everyone else having a year's experience in the new system.
2. ISU, PSU, Northwestern, Michigan, and Nebraska were all more talented teams top to bottom. So yeah, those teams had the horses that Iowa didn't.
3. Ferentz's gameday coaching has been a weak spot for a very long time. That's not a recent development. Even in 2002, poor time management was evident. The talent simply made up for it. And the final play of the Cap One Bowl was an absolute cluster**** of ineptitude, but he was bailed out by Tate making a spectacular play.
Ferentz really hasn't changed all that much over his tenure.
