It's very likely that Ferentz will be fired before his contract is up. You don't fire someone then appoint their son as coach.
I agree. While I believe his opinion is wrong, he wasn't being an idiot and it was a fun discussion
I think if Iowa State had the success over the last years that Iowa had with Kirk being their coach , that their opinion of if it was time for a change would be as troubling as it is for most of us Hawkeye fans. He has brought a lot of success and enjoyment to the fan base. This year will tell if he is adjusting his style or not. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and being maybe overly optimistic.
Seneca Wallace and Rosenfels are both 10 yr NFL veterans and seasoned backups with a few starts to their resume. The reason they were both out of the NFL last season (despite both being 5x better than Stanzi), is few teams want to pay the 10-yr vet minimum salary for a backup. Otherwise, stick the two ISU QB's in KC last year, and Stanzi is a 5th teamer. --I guess if that makes me a 'hater' so be it.
Yeah as an ISU fan I've never been in a situation so I hear ya. I do know if I was an Iowa fan I wouldn't know what to be optimistic about though...
1. The GD hire, IMO, was an effort to shake things up a little. It clearly didn't work last year. Maybe it will work better with a fresh face under center and everyone else having a year's experience in the new system.
2. ISU, PSU, Northwestern, Michigan, and Nebraska were all more talented teams top to bottom. So yeah, those teams had the horses that Iowa didn't.
3. Ferentz's gameday coaching has been a weak spot for a very long time. That's not a recent development. Even in 2002, poor time management was evident. The talent simply made up for it. And the final play of the Cap One Bowl was an absolute cluster**** of ineptitude, but he was bailed out by Tate making a spectacular play.
Ferentz really hasn't changed all that much over his tenure.

The majority of the arguments revolved around KF either being washed up and past his prime, or focused on injuries and poor recruiting classes for the past two years' failures. There were logical points made on both sides, but could probably have stopped after 10 posts, rather than 150.
I'm also going to guess that breck had several posts that started off, "oh Jamby" or "oh mikey ," and those two responded with how pathetic the "hok" fanbase is, and how insecure Iowa fans are, regardless of the media love for everything KF. Probably some sort of hint at a media infatuation conspiracy as well.

In my defense, only a few posts, and to my surprise, Jamby only had one and MikeyM decided to take this thread off. But Clark is the clear cut winner here-and about all the posts were rational and carried on in a civil way. Way beyond the norm on CF.
I liked Iowa's offensive line, kicker and maybe the corners better, but those are really the only positions I would give Iowa an edge. The defenses weren't even close as a whole. I'd maybe take Hyde and Lowery, but ISU's secondary as a whole was better than Iowa's.
Quarterback was a wash at the absolute best, and I only give Iowa that much credit because it took forever for ISU to settle on Richardson. But I'd take Richardson over Vandy at this point.
ISU's wideouts were better, even with Lenz disappearing for part of the season. Iowa was a revolving door at running back, and I liked what White and Johnson were bringing to the table.
The only reason the game was so close last year was because Jantz missed on several wide open receivers on what would have been touchdowns if he'd completed the passes. It should have been a blowout. I've got no problem at all in saying ISU was the better team.
So how do you defend KF as a coach if he hasn't brought in the horses that ISU and Northwestern have?
Because recruiting is not the same thing as the game passing him by, which was your argument, IIRC. It's all the other stuff that has nothing to do with football (social media, etc.) that has passed him by. That kind of stuff is important to today's kids, and Ferentz is more old school. But he has no less of a grasp on the game itself than he did 10 years ago.
