REPORT: Anthony Nelson flips commitment to Iowa

Have to think he caught wind of Bielema becoming the next head coach at Iowa. Damn you UNIGuy4Cy!!!! His worst fears are coming true!

You know what the problem is with this kid de-committing from us and going to Iowa?

I don't even care. Seriously, can you blame a kid for going to a lesser team if it means a shot at a bowl? I can't.

Not sure we're getting anywhere close to 2nd/3rd tier Florida or Texas kids. More like 4th or 5th.

A lot of our best players recently have come from the midwest.
Knott-IA
KVDK-IA
Klein-WI
Bibbs-IL originally
Lenz-IA
Farniok-SD

recruits
Campos-IA
Lazard-IA

Osemele was from Texas, but I will give the OK to any kid that big.
Im not saying to stay away from TX and FL, but ignoring your own state, the only place where anyone gives a **** about you, seems dumb to me. McCarney recruited Iowa a lot and he was more successful than Rhoads or Chiz

I will agree with this, but in your original post you said IOWA not the MIDWEST.

I would consider Lazard and Campos elite Iowa talent, Knott was a gem that we found. Some of the best players I was around were the 2nd and 3rd tier TX/FL/CA kids, for example Enis Haywood was a great talent that was over looked by the local TX schools.

We do need a mix of Iowa and these other kids, but there really isn't much D1 Talent in Iowa compared to TX/FL/CA.

Good luck, Mr. Nelson. No hard feelings.

Now let's get G.G. Robinson, De'Amontae Jackson, &/or Jamal Milan instead.

Thread loop about to begin.

I'll take strength of Big 12 North for $800 Alex.

Won't say that but.....

Dan McCarney Overall Win % 0.397 Conference Win % 0.284
Paul Rhoads Overall Win % 0.429 Conference Win % 0.353

Of course I always like the fact Dan McCarney has the record for most wins and everyone seems to forget he has the record for most losses.

If Rhoads goes 3-9 next year, he will still have a better win % than McCarney.

My problem is when people assume that a kid from Florida is inherently better than a kid from Iowa based on where they live. I know of kids from Iowa who were bigger, faster, stronger, and fantastic players in Iowa high school football and were passed over for kids from texas and florida. It makes no sense to me because these kids will ultimately care more about beating iowa and going to bowls because they know it means something to people here and they want to do them proud.

Shows .387 for Rhoads here: http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/coaches/paul-rhoads-1.html

He has some work to do to catch McCarney.

Lol you're throwing Bibbs in there? Illinois has major major football. Iowa does not.

Where did we get Osemele, Richardson, George, Reeves, Johnson, Cotton-Moya, Tribune, Bundrage, West, Johnson, Nealy, White, Rump, ect.

If you are trying to win a contest with the volume of players you are going to lose.

Don't turn down Iowa guys and guys from lower leagues if you find them, but you can't rely on those leagues to build the core of your team and if they get overlooked for leagues that play more often and have actual year round development, that's a small price to pay.

And I'm not sure we want to emulate McCarney.

To be fair I think out of state kids care just as much about winning and going to bowl games as Iowa kids do. Maybe they don't care as much about beating Iowa but who cares.
