Recruit Lists v2.0

Is he actually transferring? If he is, he would be a huge get. Guy reminded me of a bigger version of Kane as far as his approach to the game.

You'd think he would if he was serious about going pro. There's nothing official, but he has the opportunity to transfer and be immediately eligible and has ties to a Top 10 team destined for the tournament. I'd hope Barry, the former HP coach, has at least reached out to him.

Here is my take on a couple of recruits.

Xavier Simpson

I know we recently made his final six but the guy is basically Xavier's to lose. He has made multiple visits to Xavier and damn near pulled the trigger this past Spring. I know he is setting up visits with other schools and Prohm has made a strong push recently, but the visits Simpson is setting up is merely him going through the motions. Extremely confident that he will pick Xavier.

Antoin Cook however I believe we stand a very good chance a capturing his pledge. Sounds like both Robinson and Prohm are in constant contact with this young man. Recruitment with him has just begun, and it sounds like he will announce next Fall.

Hoping the awkward factor of being the second Xavier to go to Xavier steers him away from there.

Assume you meant Arlando Cook.

Please quote where Randy said it was a 'pipe dream'. I read his article about Monte a few days ago and it didn't say that exactly. I know you are prone to hyperbole, so I'm curious if you are exaggerating now.

Okay, buddy, you win.... so I added the word 'pipe'. His EXACT quote for ya..... "Mann recruited Morris, also from Flint, but if anyone thinks he's going to return for his senior season in 2016-17---they're dreaming." (DMReg, June 23rd) . Shoot me for the paraphrasing, but I don't think it was exaggerating.

And Randy probably said that because he is convinced MM is a lottery pick, and has no real knowledge of what MM is really thinking. Remember, this is the same person who was certain Fred wasn't going anywhere after his heart surgery.

It's no secret he wants to go pro after this year. He's going to have to show improvements in his game to warrant that but he wants to. Good thing is if he does go pro after this year it means we had a really really good year IMO

Why do you say hes going to have to show improvements? A more consistent jumper is bout it and that has improved as well with the potential to get better. Guards are drafted constantly just off half the production of Monte and their potential.

He needs to prove he can score more and he's small for his position. It's not like he's on mock drafts saying he's a first rounder or anything. He definitely has some improvements to make to be more attractive to NBA scouts

I think Monte is 4-year player. I hope he has the type of improvement, and the kind of year he needs to go in the first round, but I think he'll be back next year.

He's as frail as Steph Curry without the knack for throwing the ball in from about anywhere.

20 good pounds and more strength, I could see the opportunity arise.

Monte is 6'2" 170. For comparison sake, Tony Parker is 6'2" 180. Adding 10# would not be an issue for MM at all.

Parker is not an elite athlete, but is as crafty as they come, and has a scoring mentality with a nice shot. MM has the craftiness to his game (i.e. the pull up, floater over the shot blocker...Isaiah Austin in 2014 Big XII title game comes to mind). I think he just needs to have a more consistent jumper.

I think another problem Monte has is a lack of comparables for NBA scouts to go off of, his game/body type is pretty unique. If he wants to go high in the draft I think his best shot is to stay for his Sr. year and show that he can score the ball at a consitent and higher rate to go along with everything else he brings. He's just not going to get that opportunity to score again this season.

Steph was second in core strength on his team and a freak.

I'm quite sure MM would love to leave for NBA after next season as his buddies are gone. But I highly doubt it happens...he's not even on 2016 draft boards and 2017 he's a 2nd rounder right now. No way he jumps unless he's guaranteed a 1st rs pick. Would be very dumb. MM needs..as others have said..to become a better scorer IMO.

Let's just calm down and wait to see how this year unfolds first.

He will listen to Prohm and others including Fred to get a real draft picture. He won't leave just to leave.

If he leaves early, it probably means he blew up (which should correlate to good things this season).

If he stays, then we're a tourney team automatically in 2016-17.

These are great problems to have.

As long as it's a good decision to leave I'll be fine with it. Too many guys leave when they shouldn't.

I completely agree. It is also super sad how many kids are getting fed really bad advice as well. To me, it is a lot simpler than a lot of people make it out to be. All said and done, the NBA draft is either 1st round or bust. Only first-round picks get guaranteed contracts, so second round picks are borderline worthless and most don't pan out. Therefore, if you are projected by most and fairly confident in being a first round pick, then it is probably smart for most guys to declare. However, if you've got years left in college and likely aren't going first round, you are usually much better staying.

Simple problem every year is that you've got 30 first-round picks and at least 60 guys truly believing they are 1st rounders. When it comes to Monte after this year, my advice doesn't change, but I'm waiting until after this year to assess my opinion.
