Recruit Lists v2.0

Bingo. It has always hurt recruiting some but right now it has to be close to a stand still until this is resolved.

If it happens again next year, you can basically forget recruiting kids that have other decent offers.

Why sign up to spend 3-4 years at a school with a coach that obviously wants to coach in the NBA and could be gone any moment?

Why Pollards comments were really dumb even if true. Unless he was going this year and Pollard knows it. Sure they were sent to every recruit we are in on by an opposing coach.

"Not a matter of if but when" - ISU A.D. Jamie Pollard on Hoiberg to the NBA. Are you sure you want to commit to someone who won't commit to you?

Why Pollard has ever opened his mouth on the subject is beyond me.

This hit the nail on the head. All that did was feed the fire, which was already out of control. Truth is, none of us know exactly what's going on behind closed doors or what Fred and the rest of the staff are telling these kids were recruiting. The fact that there is a stand still like this is what some might call "not encouraging."

This offseason just needs to skip about one month forward so every thread isn't about Fred leaving for the Bulls and what's best for the man with a complicated life and a family to look after.

If I'm a coach at a different school that is recruiting a kid that ISU is also recruiting, I just text that article to his coach and the player and ask him if he's really sure he wants to take the chance that Fred will bail after his freshman year.

It was an astoundingly dumb move by Pollard.

That's not just going to hurt us with transfers this year, it's going to haunt us.

Yep, it makes him a permanent lame duck.

I agree JP should have said something else, but even if he did, these recruits aren't dumb. They know Fred's name comes up every off season, and opposing coaches didn't just start using this against us after JP's comments.

There's only one thing that can answer the recruit's questioning, and that is Fred telling them he'll be around next year, whether that's private or public, shouldn't matter. Problem is, these recruits are going to be here more than a year. I guess if I was Fred, I'd probably just tell them what they want to hear.

I agree but JP made it worse. He took ( both this time and his earlier comments) what was speculation abut Hoiberg's desires and made them fact. I am sure he is prepping the fan base for that inevitable day but in doing so he has made it a lot harder to succeed. This time he left little room for interpretation and his comments came off as much more immediate than previous variations.

Dude, you aren't "New member guest thread moderator"...chill out...

This thread is how Matt Abdelmassih aka Giant Midget knows who to offer at St Johns. He has a notification set every time there is a new post. Clogging it up with a discussion on how the nba rumors is affecting recruiting in the recruit thread I am sure is quite annoying.

It could be appealing to elite talent that Fred will be in the NBA soon. One or two and done and then your coach could draft or coach you in the NBA. Also would buy into his opinion about their chance of playing in the league. I think his silence isn't helping with the 4 yr guys, but don't think it's killing us

Didn't work with Diallo. I worry this won't end till Fred speaks out, and he isn't.

I'm pretty sure Fred himself has said his desire is to coach in the NBA someday. There should have been no speculation on that. The only speculation should be on when Fred wants to make that leap.

If Hoiberg comes back I don't think what JP said made anything worse. Could you imagine Fred turning down a top 5 NBA job (when it's common knowledge his goal is to coach in the NBA) to stay at ISU? That's some good publicity
