Surely you have some nascar gear besides all the hawk clothes that they could wear.
This weekend will be my first trip to Iowa City for a game. Just curious on the general attitude of the hawk fans towards ISU fans and wanted to hear some of your past experiences. I dont mind a hostile enviorment, cuz when i hear **** talking, i love dishing it back out. Gonna be a good time.
2002 - parked in the fieldhouse lot. Beer cans, tomatos, raw meat and beer bottles flew at us from every direction all day. Total weekend cost. 1 grill, 1 windshield, 1 headlight, and 24 stiches to my buddies foot.
2004 - olive court. Great tailgate, people next to us were awesome. As we crossed Melrose someone ran out of a yard and smacked my buddy (different one) in the head with a beer mug. Ambulance and everything on that one.
2006 - Public paved lot SE of stadium. Great tailgate, even went with a few hawk fans. In the stadium one of the fans down the row didnt want to sit near a cyclone. He came at me, gave me the highschool shove and then went to get the ICPD. It took until almost half time and the entire row of people infront of me to convince the cops that I had done nothing wrong.
2008- stayed at home, had a blast with my hawkeye neighbors and will never return to that city on game day again.
I think the other poster said it right. Each school has a number of fans who's whole day is made in making someone else's miserable. There are many people like this in Iowa city and walk around the stadium just once, and one will find you.
Side note: in 2006 I watched what I would presume to be a student chase what I would guess to be a 16 year old girl and her 11 or 12 year old brother down melrose with a dil#o hanging out of his pants. That is class right there for you.

Well you have convinced me to not buy tickets-- my checkbook thanks you.
After 2002, I don't think I would have gone back.
I didn't read this whole thread, but I have two personal experiences to contribute.
I was in the ISUCFVMB when we played there in 2006. When we were marching over to the stadium, a drunk Hawk fan leaped out of the crowd (that was busily harassing and throwing things at us) and cracked a liquor bottle over the head of some little trumpet girl. It was fortunate that the hospital's Emergency Room was literally across the street, because that's where she needed to go. (Thanks to that, on the way back after the game, we marched in "battle formation"- drumline at the front in a wedge, forcibly moving people out of the way by using their instruments.)
The second was 2008, the last game in Iowa City. My dad works for the UI, and people in his department are always giving away (or selling for cheap) tickets to things that they can't attend. He managed to get tickets for me and my girlfriend, but they were smack in the middle of the BIG-money donor section. We were on the end of a row, and chose to stand the entire game and cheer for the Cyclones. Naturally, none of the Hawks around us liked that, and gave us crap the entire game. We were VERY polite through all of it, but held our ground and stood up while doing our best to ensure the people in the row behind us still had a clear view of the field. After the game, we were walking away from the stadium, and something hits me hard in the back of the head. I looked around and saw a full bottle of Bud Light shattered on the sidewalk, and a HUUUUGELY overweight Hawk fan staring at me through his full-face mountain-man beard. I was still in a bit of shock, and asked him if he threw that bottle at me.
"Yeah! Whatcha gonna do about it?!"
"Why... why the hell would you throw a bottle of beer at me? You could have seriously hurt me, and my head is bleeding now!"
"Because you're one o' them [offensive slurs], that's why!"
"Dude, your team won. We're walking quietly out of the stadium. What the hell is your problem?"
"I saw you standing up and cheering for them [vile racial slurs]. You didn't respect the people who are better than you and sit the **** down! I need to teach you a lesson!!"
At this point, he started lumbering towards me, a step or two at a time. By now, I was good and ******. I was half his size, twice as agile, and VERY sober, and I realized that I'd been clutching my collapsible flagpole in my hand this whole time. That flagpole, when collapsed, is basically a steel truncheon- it's really solid. He took a drunken swing at me and I ducked it and jumped back. I was about to swing back but my girlfriend dragged me off by the arm before I could do something stupid. I was pretty damn angry from the whole incident, but in retrospect that probably would have ended with me in jail, so I'm glad my girlfriend kept a level head.
50% of the people that will be there will mostly leave you alone, 45% will throw out some really vile, offensive, threatening "trash talk" (which is really verbal assault, legally speaking), but these stories are representative of the last 5%- the total lunatics that are perfectly fine with physically assaulting people just because they cheer for the Cyclones.
Good luck, OP.
google Penn State at Iowa and see the youtube video of Hawk fans pelting Penn St fans with beer cans.
So because the pollsters have generated hype this makes it ok to be a big jack###. This attitude is exactly what is wrong with most Iowa fans. When the team wins the fans let everyone know about it. When the team loses they are no where to be found. Need proof, see basketball.

I also agree. The Iowa fanbase has individuals that do this.....NOBODY else acts in this way. They are the most class-less fans in the country.
