Their clause may be different than the Big12’s. They are also all ESPN where as the Big12 also has Fox who doesn’t have that clause in our contract. They aren’t interested in Oregon State or Washington State. Stanford and Cal aren’t interested in the Big12. Stanford and Cal give ESPN more late window options in the ACC as well, not to mention the inevitable ACC raiding and ESPN will still have time slots to fill.
I do wonder if Clemson, Florida State and UNC are against voting partially in the case that if one more flips and Stanford and Cal get added that they think this helps them with their case for the getting out because the conference changed, travel changed (yes I know the rumors are the new money would go toward travel costs, etc.) and on and on. They can say, "Hey we three voted time and time again against expansion. This is NOT what we signed up for in the current deal, we want out."
No idea if a judge would rule in their favor, but that's where my mind keeps going on this. Because aside from the travel, these few schools are expected to get at least a bit more money, so what's the issue?

I honestly never thought this would happen. I'm still not sold that NCSt flipped, but we'll see.
I think this is the first time in modern realignment where an expansion vote is not unanimous. Perhaps behind closed doors there have been others, but it’s always been advertised as unanimous. Obviously, it speaks to the feelings of some ACC schools.

Did SMU take out a couple mortgages on their campus while they're at it? 7 years without media revenue seems pointless.
ACC adds 3 pretty terrible basketball teams while we picked up Arizona. No question who the best basketball conference anymore.
It is a desperation move... but their only chance to become relevant in CFB. The line of P4 is drawn and if they didn't get into even a dying ACC they had no chance not being relegated to the minor leagues of CFB forever. Almost unbelievable but they are actually in better position than WSU/OSU assuming they go to the ACC or MWC with this move today. They now have to pray the ACC stays together 2036 for the chance the move pays off.
It's only a cut of like 6 MM since that is what they are getting from the AAC. Probably have a few boosters who threw that in.
Still have to compete against teams getting a full share. Wonder if they consider themselves equals.
I think it said in the ESPN article that SMU upped it to go from 7 years with no tv revenue to 9. Talk about feeling like a second class citizen within your own conference when you’re already starting from behind
