Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

It’s almost as if college football isn’t the NFL and never has been…
No doubt, and arguing with the most successful industry in the country is pretty bold. I wonder why the NFL doesn’t reward teams that make the playoffs and Super Bowl. Why do you think that is?

They do, the players all get 150K bonuses for winning the Super Bowl and 87K for losing. The owners get paid millions with the extra playoffs and also get the massive revenue distribution from ads and media dollars.

They also only have 32 teams. You want cfb to go down to 32 teams?

Ahh, the players get bonuses negotiated in their contracts. The owners split it equally regardless of market size, etc. You’re really working hard to say it’s not to maintain a competitive balance.

I mean you never did say why they do what they do…

Oh no it’s 100% to maintain competitive balance, that’s why there is a draft and the worst team gets to pick first and there is a salary cap.

Again if you want to put that into place and go down to 32 teams I don’t think you’re gonna find much support here.

NFL might be #1 but CFB is #2, more than the NBA, MLB, and MLS that all have those same/similar protections in place the NFL does.

Going down to 32 teams isn’t required for revenue sharing, why are you stuck on that number?

It’s #2 with big changes coming, including no more underpaid labor. The P2 are trying to squeeze closer to 32, good grief.

You brought up the NFL comparison so that’s what I was referencing. There already is revenue sharing within conferences. There will be revenue sharing within playoffs as well.

Yeah but the 32 number doesn’t logically tie to revenue sharing.

Within conferences isn’t the same as within the league, obviously. And since competitive balance isn’t a consideration for your leaders, I wouldn’t assume it’s always like that. Especially with employee athletes coming along.

I’m already on the record that full employee status will be the end of college athletics

Like the end of volleyball, tennis, track, and softball? What does the end of college athletics mean to everyone?
Those are for sure gone without a wealthy donor to support. Basketball will probably see an overall teams reduction but mostly for smaller programs. Probably a good 40 D1 football programs shut down as well.

Then you will get into the employment lawsuits, the title 9 lawsuits, the wrongful termination lawsuits, the healthcare lawsuits.

It's gonna be a mess even for football and men’s basketball.

I can offer, not a total solution, but a simple start.

If it was just football the damage wouldn’t be that bad, it would just be the richer schools getting richer. Programs would still close due to liability like I mentioned but it can be contained. The problem comes when the other sports outside of football are also employees and then navigating title 9.

What stories like that fail to mention is that amount is just for scholarship FOOTBALL players. Title 9 would like a word. Also health insurance and liability for injuries would be off the charts.

Love Iowa State athletics; hate the money grab culture of collegiate sports, fueled by colleges who are already well off

Or Big12 could "alliance" the SEC and B1G, making sure equal distributin of the three and force out the other conferences. This would escalate the realignment process, kill the PAC and ACC. Would allow 3 + 9 situation where it's possible big and sec end up with more participation on the lower tioer. One thing for sure Yormark will be ready with multiple options.

No way I’d go that route. It wouldn’t long before they stab you in the back. You’d be better off tying yourself to the smaller conferences and forcing balance. Cause if you believe you can ever trust an alliance with the Big10, the PAC would like to offer some advice.

I’m even a big ten guy and I know the conference would stab you in the back before the ink dried. No way you will convince them to give you equal anything even if it is justified

No I totally understand that the tweet is implying scholarship football players only. My intention was just pointing out the bloated budgets(which all of us are aware of) and if they were serious about paying the athletes THERE IS ROOM in athletics departments who are making 70+ million dollars a year.

I am not saying I’m just now realizing it or that no one here isn’t this thinking this too. It’s just hard to swallow seeing a family getting $10+ million a year also get a private jet and cars when the clock is about to strike midnight on college athletics.

Then on top of that the administrations who are already making the most money are basically saying “we want MORE playoff money on top of our money or **** the rest ya”.

Nothing I said is new to anyone here just wanted to rant.

This is why I could see the big tens top teams telling the bottom teams that they deserve less and go unequal distribution. If they are continuing to screw over other conferences, that attitude doesn’t just die when there is only a P2. The teams will start infighting since that greed needs to be channeled somewhere.
