Ray Kasongo

To compare, Edozie only D-1 offers were Minnesota and ISU if I remember correctly.

It is fine if you and others are down on Kasongo, that is what message boards are for.
I just want some evidence that he can't contribute to ISU as a RS Jr before deciding on Ray's ability this year.

It was just ISU, he committed to Minnesota and then they had him decommit

Still skeptical of Prohm and staff while we currently have our one our best recruiting classes in program history coming in? Makes sense.

That's a bold statement to make about a class that hasn't played a D1 game yet. One very nice player in Wigginton, Lewis looks like a Top 100 type (which is good but nothing atypical for ISU recruiting) and Mcneill is a decent scoring guard but not highly ranked. Nice class, but I won't dub it one of the best in the history of ISU yet.

I like this class, but Prohm still has his work cut out for him in the spring, since he struck out on bigs in the fall. Need to land 2-3 players, particularly JCs and transfers who can play right away... and they need to be higher quality than the transfers he took last year.

Can't hurt to wait and give the kid a shot.
People are concerned about his lack of hype, but we'd be suspicious if we heard hype about guys who haven't played yet.

We heard plenty of hype when Nader, McKay, and Burton were sitting out. The fact that most people forget Kosongo is even on the roster is pretty telling.

You mean like the evidence of him not playing on a bad Tennessee team?

i don't care about rankings...we just need all the help we can get.

every single b12 team has at least 1 big (most 2-3) that is bigger, stronger, and better at basketball than our inside guys. we just have a major hole in our roster right now.

watching TCU/OU/WVU/Tech/KSU/KU last night was sobering - we are so small.

Well no **** Sherlock, based of recruiting rankings it is one of the best classes Iowa Statebhas had. That was my point of that and directed by those who say he can't recruit.

What's your point? Burton didn't play much on a bad Marquette team either and he's turned out to be solid. That's a pretty weak basis of analysis.

The point is there is evidence. All you have to go on is what came before. There was a lot more to go on with Burton. He was on the all freshman team in the big east and looked really good his freshman year. he was playing 16 minutes a game before he transferred. his efficiency numbers were really good as well. He was also a top 50 player out of HS.

Kasongo only played 15 minutes a game at JUCO and only averaged 6 pts and 5 rbs.
He played in only 22 games at Tennessee averaging 5.5 minutes and 1.4 pts and 1.4 rbs. as a Sophomore. Also, keep in mind he also spent a year in prep school after he graduated HS so he even had an extra year to get better and is older than most of the kids in his class. He is a big athletic kid that hasn't shown he is much of a basketball player. Could he get a lot better? Sure, and I hope he does. But I am not counting on it. There were also reports from Tennessee people that he gave very little effort and that listened to much to his 'advisors'. Which is why he probably has been bouncing from school to school for the last 4-5 years. He was only a 3 star recruit out of HS.

And I have no problem with getting him. ISU needs bigs and he was at least worth taking a chance on because of his athleticism and size. But right now I would guess he is more Holden than McKay.

This is a good post. I've never said the class was bad but Prohm and his staff were unable to land a single post player. Spring recruits generally are spring recruits for a reason.

I like Prohm, I think his staff his holding his recruiting back is all. He should be chasing Wiggington types and helping close the rest of the guys. As of now, 3/3 of the staff hasn't been the lead recruiter on a single player making an impact at ISU.

That is a concern to me.

Time will tell.

No, this post is weak. Even at a cursory glance, that's a really bad equivalence. Burton as a freshman played significantly more than Ray as a junior, earning Big East All-rookie accolades.

Pretty funny that almost everyone here posting is more familiar with Stu's game than Kasongo's game and yet everyone is an expert on Kasongo. Let the dude show what he can or can not do next year before we roast him. Prohm obviously knows that it is hit or miss with post players. He is not counting on one guy. He has brought in numbers trying to find a couple that step up.

I think your last half sentence is a huge key. Fans don't want to see another year of no post presence, or disadvantaged undersized team, or discussing again whether Carter improved enough to help a few minutes.

Yet we had many of those same conversations under the previous lord and savior?

interesting comment from a Tennessee fan back when he committed to ISU. Also the comment about the 7 schools in 6 years plays into my earlier post that he's a bit of a head case.

In that case I'll just repost what I put on that thread.

Good practice body. Hopefully we can improve his game as he sits a year.
