ATF and FBI are involved last I heard. I think it's 18 guns total, handguns and rifles. One of the rifles is full auto apparently. Class 3 dealers are allowed to have those.

That and now Iowa has the kid on the run (of course he goes north) that killed his family. Must be a full moon or something to be setting people off kilter.

Coming this June

My sister's kids go to some hotsy totsy "Chicago" school. This is probably on their summer list of books they have to read. Fortunately in the boonies of southern Iowa, kids get the summer off to decompress.

Departmental tour going by my office. Everyone is leaning in and peering at me. I really want to jump up on my desk and do my Orangutan imitation. :D

The thing that bothers me about these tours - I know one of the two guys leading it, and he has a pretty good idea of what we do here. The guy that's with him, I don't know...but he just stood outside my door and embellished on our mission for about 10 people...and got it mostly wrong.

*sigh*

We had fun last weekend sorting through some boxes my sister brought back to CS after they moved Daddy out of the house in Phoenix. She just sent me a few of the scanned pics. This one is my grandmother and me. This was taken in 1955. She was born in 1899. Do the math. Texas ranch life in the first half of the last century was NOT an easy life.

speaking of school stuff, now I'm looking at the local high school's page to see if it's more like Birdy's or the torture chambers you others are talking about. Can't tell what the general feel is for homework, study hall and such.

One thing I hope to do is praise kids for working hard, not "being smart" or the like. Read about studies showing that kids who are told they are "smart" end up not working as hard because they think they can skate by on smarts alone. Thinking back, I was definitely one of those kids who fell into that and between not having a lot of assistance for high school questions and then getting to college........I had a rough time in a class that I couldn't just "figure it out" but had to work hard to understand what was going on. And, like Birdy, I married up. But don't tell him that.

Though I wonder sometimes, I was pretty good at math til high school. Work with it a lot now and I like the stats side and the relationships you can see between the numbers. Makes me think if I had had a better program in high school that I could have done better in that realm.

Book update:

up to object 15 in 100 objects history of the world book. At about page 95/700. Pretty good progress for getting it Tuesday night and only reading for about 15 minutes each morning. There are pictures for each object so that helps. Best object so far is an eleven thousand year old small sculpture that is two people boning. Look at it from different angles and it looks like boobs and a phallic shape. Point of featuring this object is that people have been obsessed with sex for as long as we've been people. Also that 11k years ago when there were like, mammoths and ****, we still had time to sit around and make stuff like this. I can imagine cavewoman mom being like "Ruglug, stop making indecent things and go fetch mammoth meat!"

Starting English history book, at page 18/1000. Took a nap while reading yesterday, lol. Knew I would do that though.

I saw there was a political aspect but couldn't find comments on what it actually dealt with. Is he an anti-Trump guy, Bundy-type or what? Scary either way.

At this level, they are just a nutjob guy. Not matter right or left, any rational individual doesn't do stuff like this.

I found it easier to get by on stunning good looks.

All the hot girls seemed to get extra time to do assignments and I just got zeros.

I'm in a box. A furniture box, to be specific. We were visiting the grandparents at the ranch, and back then parents didn't haul around a minivan full of Pak'n'plays and timed swings and paper diapers, etc. They threw the bigger kids in the back seat (maybe with seat belts, maybe not), babies rode on laps, and they took a supply of cloth diapers & washed them after use.

But yeah, the fingers were what we saw. We think it was one of my older sisters' baby dolls - the fingers look plastic in the original. But my happy grin coupled with the desperate fingers reaching skyward makes it look like I'm squashing someone. :D

I think my high school only limits you to one study hall a semester. I usually had 2. One semester I had 3 every other day. 5th, 6th, and 8th hour. Worst thing ever. You need 28 credits to graduate. now. When I was there it was only 24.
