To me it takes a nut to believe violence is the way to solve something. Guess I'm getting old.
I did smile when I read this (I know schools count credits in different ways so its not apples to apples) because we needed 45 which I had in 3 years.
What i figured. Since it was around half of ours and ours were 1 credit per semester.
They also ****** up the grading scale. Everything is graded on a number basis. 5 being an A, and 1/0 being an F. No such thing as +/- anymore. So a B+ is the same as a B-, both would be a 4.
Right, and I was thinking more motivation/target side. Like, is he going after Paul Ryan type questions.
I don't remember how many credits. All I remember is that we had to have x number of classes in each of the disciplines (English & Lit, History & Gov, Math, Science). PE was required every semester. Certain classes were required in each, and then you chose from a few others for the rest of the credits in that discipline. I was one class short in science after my first semester senior year, so my second semester, I took Psychology. I also took three choir classes, a drama class, a mountaineering class for PE (we rappelled down the bleacher stacks) and a study hall, which I spent with my BFF in the cafeteria, playing partner Spades (a card game) against all comers. We had a pretty fine win/loss record. 
In short, my last semester in high school was a freakin' blast.

My senior year my school merged with another (I left to avoid that dumpster fire) and the grades were a disaster. They went by percentages, 93,76 and such We were grades. Instead of converting the percentages to grades, they estimated what our grade percent was. So an A may be listed as a 95. I had a few classes where extra credit had me pegging a couple at 110%+, they would have called this a 95. Wonderful if they guessed low and you were shooting for scholarships.
Smart kids know they are smart, unless they have no self confidence from someone who is emotionally abusive of them. The problem is kids who are average and are told they are smarter than they are.
I have done a lot of volunteer work with the school TAG coordinator on projects in my area of expertise. In working with identified TAG kids, you can see a lot of them probably have been identified who really should not have been. But when they work hard, they can certainly do the work. It is in competitions that require thinking on their feet that you can tell the difference.
One particular nightmare kid was told by his father constantly that he was smart but lazy. My view of the kid was he hit the nail on the head with the lazy part but not the smart part. Of course, I would never say that to the kid. He went to college saying he would be a brain surgeon. He dropped out after freshman year.

My first school had a rule that you had to be out for PE unless you were in a sport. I loved that rule because I was out for enough that I never needed PE and I could hammer the classes out. Why I had so many credits compared to required. I could get 8 credits in a 7 credit day. I wish my son's would do this.

Title IX went into effect during my senior year. We were a 3 year HS with 1600 students, and TWO sports for girls, gymnastics and tennis.
That dodge wasn't an option for me.
Mountaineering was a lot of fun, though.
My wife is going through this scenario right now. There is a student that scores excessively low on all testing, should be special ed. Dad says hes just lazy. Doesnt want them assisting him much. My wife was informed that the dad filed a complaint against her withe the superintendent. (not because shes my wife but Ive had nearly every one of her admins tell me she is one of the strongest teachers in her district). The super talked to the principal and asked whats going on. Principal said the kid struggles so shes helping him in spare time to understand the work. Super said, isnt that what teachers are supposed to do if they care, Principal agreed, said but the dad wants her to not help him a smidge and let him fail so he learns.
We had to take PE even when your sport was in season however the PE teacher was the football coach so the FB players could sit in his office "watching game film" because they got enough physical training during practice yet the cross country team who ran several miles every night apparently weren't getting enough exercise.
Did you read the part where CG dumped DH for WDSM, and is prego and not sure who the pa is? So, basically not much.
Parents can really mess up their kids. Schools do a poor job of adequately helping the ends of the spectrum, those well above and well below average; they really just have resources targeted at the average. It is one of the reasons I became an at home parent, we recognized early on that our kids were pretty smart like their dad and needed some enrichment activities.
You forgot to add that WDSM's out buying Sperrys and a backpack for all of her guide books since he's replacing DH on the Scotland trip.
Oh, and Chaser got a pink slip.
Wife leaves Sunday for a week in DC with the daughter. Will need to video tape the house when she leaves to make sure everything is back in position a week later. I can spend the whole week cleaning and she will come home and immediately start cleaning if something is out of her place.
And they've kicked DH out of the house so they'll be having a party celebrating this summer.
