Took the wife for a romantic valentine's lunch yesterday. The kids were with us and we were eating panda express, in the car, sitting in the parking lot of Sam's club waiting for our pick up order to get ready. I gotta admit, I still know how to woo her.

Made the gf salmon and asparagus. #Winning

I think it's the same with grouse, quail, and turkeys...turkeys are horrible at flying compared to pheasants.

Owls might be my favorite bird to watch when they fly. Never a sound and their ability to get through thick trees is remarkable.

LOL wild turkeys are funny to watch land the ones I've seen land in the timber just point to some bushes and come tumbling down, they have to be tough as can be to survive their landings.

Ran into only two other peeps walking in the park this afternoon. Perfect. Cold enough to cut back on the riffraff but not too cold for me. Bum and hamstrings did get chilled the last 1/4 mile, odd, would have guessed cold feet or cold hands after four miles, but nope.

On my run last week I put nitrile gloves outside of my normals thinking they'd block the wind and help with warmth

Terrible idea.

They went absolutely frigid and I couldn't feel my fingers. Swapped them to inside my gloves and it was way better.

Can't wait for that 15 degree day Tuesday to get out!

They do scare you when you find them face to face and 5 foot from you.

Wild turkeys can (and do) fly. At least the ones around here do. But yeah, they run more than they fly.
Domestic turkeys, on the other hand, are incapable of flight. Their "boobies" are too big. ;)

The pheasant hunters have deliveries made at night so they make it look like they're harvesting wild birds.

You talking about the planted hunts like they do in WI?

I don't recall that being a thing in Iowa when I used to hunt but never needed to wonder as there were quite a few pheasants in our area most years.

They're probably going to struggle through all of this latest weather.

Daughter was asked by this girl from Texas, who is thinking about going to ISU, if there really were corn fields in Iowa. Then mentioned she is scared of getting lost and dying in a corn field. There are some strange people out there.

In her defense, many of us are afraid of getting lost and dying in a cornfield. That would suck.

And I'm afraid of driving around Texas in a van with 1970s hippy friends.

I feel like the most unique iowa way to die is getting hit while driving a four wheeler.

Well yeah, the solution's pretty clear.

Best part is: does she know that if she walks a row it will eventually end?
I grew up in Chicago I'm not sure I'd think to walk the rows but I would think to walk any direction far enough to hit a road

Sometimes meals don't turn out as well as you hope found some beef short ribs in the freezer tried put some rub on them slow cooked them in oven at 250 for 3 hrs , last half hour I opened them up and put a glaze of BBQ sauce on them let them finish cooking. They turned out just ok, sort of tough and lots of fat to trim away.

Any one with a good recipe for them please share.
