Raising Canes Sucks

If we were talking ice in your drink with your chicken sandwich/tender meal, I would take Chic-Fil-A. Not a fan of their chicken, but their lemonade and the ice nuggets they use, even though they seem to use a lot of ice in there drinks, is a winner for me.

I didn't think i wouldn't said this long ago, but i really prefer Slim Chickens over Canes. The fact that Slims has sauces, that are actually good. And the shakes are great. Plus they have more than just strips.

You guys and all of your fancy sauces. The Brasky's grew up with catsup being the only condiment in the fridge. To this day I still prefer dunking chicken strips, cheese balls and mozzarella sticks in ketchup vs any other option.

That's always been a gripe of mine at Culvers. Their ranch is absolutely atrocious while everything else is great.

Also, their Alaskan cod sandwich is the best fast food fish sandwich by a mile. The pretzel bites and cheese are awesome too.

Nothing at Culvers needs anything but a little bit of Ketchup. Best FF joint, hands down simply due to the fact they have nothing on the menu that isn't among the best in its category.

I have to disagree.

Culvers is mostly unremarkable. They arent the worst, but they sure arent the best. Pretty much everything on their menu is better somewhere else. And them putting salt on everything takes them down a notch for me, I dont want salt on cheese balls, onion rings or chicken strips, hell I dont really need salt on anything and most places overdo it on their fries.

I cant think of a single thing on Culvers menu that I would not prefer to get somewhere else, and usually that somewhere is right across the street.

I know a lot of people really like Culvers, But they arent the first choice for me. They do everything kinda ok, so if going as a group or family its a decent choice because they have options that are ok for everyone, but if its just me, or a couple people the choice is usually somewhere else.

My bro in law got me into bbq sauces when I was young. He doesnt like ketchup and puts bbq on everything in place of it, and it got me hooked on it.

I still like and use ketchup but I grab the bbq first most of the time.

My middle kid puts ketchup on everything....including pancakes, he doesnt like syrup. Hes pretty picky, drives me nuts.

I dont use ketchup on chicken, though, only bbq for me on that everything else I will pretty much use either.

I also heard Chicken Heat down by the airport is good, but haven't made it there yet.

I had them once when they were a food truck on the east side and it was a really solid sandwich.

Would have had them more but they were really inconsistent then about actually being open or running out of food, so i didn't want to make the trip down there only to find they weren't open. Hopefully that's improved now that they've got an actual storefront

Oh I know there are a lot on here with very similar experiences as mine. But there for sure are some that had a very different experience, it shows.

My guess is a lot of it depends on what generation people are from and rural vs urban upbringing.

I had a childhood similar to yours, but am pickier now that I can be - I have more resources and don’t have a 5-year-old’s palate anymore. I think this may be a false equivalency.

I still don't understand how folks can order a box combo with an Arnold Palmer.

Open the box and have hot bird with dippin' sauce....and complain

It's perfect for what it is.

The Chicken in Orilla (just south of the Hwy 5 Bypass) is really really good too.
I like the Chicken and the atmosphere. It is pretty spendy.

For the $ the best place to get chicken in the DM area is Charlotte's in my opinion. One meal will take a year off your life, but damn that's good stuff.

Ketchup is the worst condiment out there.

100% agree with this. Every now and then one of their butter burgers just hit the spot, but their fries are mediocre at best and associating their cheese curds with Wisconsin should be considered a war crime. They're awful.

Growing up in WI I know a lot of people who have always treated Culvers like it's elite and I have never understood the love. I honestly prefer the food from the hot bar at a Kwik Trip/Star.

When you have a chicken restaurant and your sauce is more famous than the chicken, you actually have a sauce restaurant. Cane’s chicken is an unflavorable piece of trash and only dousing it in mostly mayo makes it tolerable.

Same idea with these “spicy” chicken sandwiches from places like Popeyes and McDonald’s. You don’t have a spicy chicken sandwich, you have a ****** spicy sauce on top of chicken.
Canes is just ok. If you want the best chicken sandwich in metro, I think Charlottes Kitchen takes that trophy. I have yet to have a better one. Their regular menu is solid and they keep trying to improve it, as well as adding weekly specials. I don't get there enough, but while Chik-fila is good, it doesn't compare. I'm sure it'll be mentioned in prior comments, I just didn't read any.
