Prohm Hired As ISU MBB Head Coach

I hope this hire works out for JP because he hitched his wagon to Prohm. If it doesn't work, Pollard should follow him out. And I say this as a huge JP fan. Huge risk to go with a low-major coach. All rumored candidates had risk to them so this isnt about Prohm. But there was a lot on this hire. If rumors are true that we could go $3-4M on a coach, this feels like settling. Underwhelming, for sure.

The unfortunate reality is that he doesn't stand much of a chance. If the team succeeds next year, it's because of Fred. If it fails next year, it's because of Prohm. After that he's got a total rebuild in front of him and either extremely high expectations for continued success or an otherwise large negative outlook bearing over him. If he's able to pull through the next couple of years, ISU may have something, otherwise there is going to be some considerably angry donors that are being pushed into upping their donations for the seats they have had for decades.

From a business perspective ISU had an excellent opportunity to use this situation to change the perception of their brand. They didn't accomplish it. Will the buy low, pray for high returns pan out? Maybe, but they are taking a huge chance here.

Personally, I'm indifferent about the hire. It doesn't move the needle in either direction. Part of that is due to Fred hangover, the rest from the points above.
 
Thank god Matt Perrault is no longer in this market. I know some talk radio hosts have love/hate fans but I've never talked to a single person that enjoyed him while he was in DSM.
 
Forgetting everything else, whether or not this hire is any good or if the future is bright or not.. I'm enjoying the fact that this hire is being reported in the national media. Lord knows there was some time in the past where that was not the case.

Enjoying the small things. Gotta appreciate it while it's here.

CW doesn't hate him which gives me pause.
 
Great hire but pushing TJ on him may not be the best even though I love TJ recruiting, let prohm succeed our fail on his own, he knows his own guys and if he can assemble a better staff on his own let him
 
So has anyone done an extensive background check to see if there are any potential connections to the Chicago Bulls?
 
I love the fact that the team travels to Europe this summer. Gives them some extra time to get comfortable with their new coach, and hopefully have a smooth start to the season this fall.

He moved mostly to be HC. Looking like Ames connections are not worth that much....
