Potential Transfers '14

As a fan I want someone that I can watch for 3-4 years. Yes, the transfer thing has worked out this long. Playing time can be an issue for some players because of what the coach has said to them during recruiting. Red shirting and having a core group of guys that you know is going to be there year in and year out builds better team chemistry. Like DSMCy said it would be nice to use JC or transfers to fill the holes where CFH didn't get a high school recruit or missed on a guys ability to play at this level.
Are you from Mars? Iowa City?

this. Did anyone really enjoy Diante Garretts 4 years more than Fizer's time here? How about the 2 year stints from Willoughby, Cato, Tinsley or the other greats?
I personally really enjoyed watching DG. The guy stuck it out at Iowa State playing for a crappy coach. I just wish he could have experienced some success for his hard work and commitment.

I think both DeAndre and Melvin are special to Cyclone fans, but it is a little different (not saying I care for recruiting purposes).

With Melvin, we watched him grow as a player and in importance to the team. You get pretty attached to a guy like that.

DeAndre was like "dang this guy is good. Damn this guy is great. Holy **** this guy is incredible. Damn this guy is gone".

This is all I was trying to get at. The only thing better than one year of DeAndre would have been multiple years of DeAndre.

being able to watch guys 3-4 years means that you have talent on the team that isn't good enough to go to the NBA and you also don't have enough talent ahead of them so they start as freshman and sophomores. We are doing it the right way now. We have a few guys that we can watch 3-4 years like Niang, Naz Long, ... maybe Matt Thomas and Monte Morris, but we have to get some transfers or lottery pick type talent out of HS to compete for the big12 and even NCAA championships. I would much rather see a winning team consistently than watch players 3-4 years.

What's better than just Kane or just Royce? Them on the same team. I wouldn't know how to guard us if we had Royce in this year's team.

I actually prefer Kane over Royce. Kane creates many more problems in matchups and Royce could be a turnover machine at times. Kane can also play without the ball better IMO.

Both were/are nightmares to prepare for and matchup with. Royce was playing some VERY good basketball towards the end of the year. Same with Kane. The difference may have been Kane didn't go through as much of a learning curve has he has played D1 basketball for the previous 3 years.

Plus Kane has the added ability to hit 3's, although Royce probably had more of an intimidation factor due to the fact that he was a 6'8", 270# football player body with point guard skills.

I personally don't care how long a player's tenure is, I just like watching guys that love Iowa State, play hard, and have good chemistry with their teammates. In that regard, this year, Kane == Ejim, in my opinion.

I'm assuming they're talking about the NBA. Wayyyy too early for that kind of talk with Monte.

Kind of what I was thinking. I'm looking at all of the upperclassman point guards that won't even sniff the NBA. I love Monte and think he will be great for us, but it's premature to think he'll go to the NBA let alone leaving early.

Four years with DG coached by Hoiberg would have been a lot more fun than what we got. Not as great as Fizer, but still good.

It's funny all of the people that are still naysayers about the transfer route. One of our best players is a transfer and Hogue is a JuCo guy. To me, if you're still disagreeing with Fred's methods, you're an idiot. In four short years just look at what he's done. I don't care if he signs 15 five star high school seniors or gets 15 transfers: the guy gets the best team on the court that he can and wins. So stop arguing against a system that is bringing success to this school.

#20-#100 freshman players who will stay a few years or all 4 years and develop + best transfers and jucos available. We're starting to see the results of layering that year after year.

People are focused on Kane and Lee right now as "true" one year players, but they forget that White, Babb, Allen, Clyburn, Luscious, Scottie, Nader, McKay...they all spent an extra year on campus practicing with the team. It's not just an advantage because they're older and proven against big time competition, it's an advantage because they make for better practice simulation and they are familiar with the team and system in their first ISU game.

The fact that they're all graduating is the only additional assurance anyone should need. The production on the hardwood and improvement of the team is plain as day.

I really don't see anyone saying that we shouldn't be taking transfers. Maybe I missed something.
