Plundering the Portal

This has some interesting info, not just about Nebraska but also NIL and future of potential revenue sharing.

"One lawsuit seeks to have Power Five schools pay players 50% of the average revenue from ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and television revenue."

Interesting. Not sure what the players' percentage cut should be, but this is the right answer moving forward and would blunt the impact of NIL as long as each player makes a reasonable base salary.

I sure hope the kids get access to IPERS or a 401k with a 10% company match once the AD is spun off to be it's own entity

I agree we need a monster pass rusher. We have a lot of young DE's that might fit the bill.

But I hope we add a dimension to our defense next season. Our defense was one of the worst in country in average length of completed pass. I attribute that to our 3 man rush vs. DB play. Would love to find a bigger/quick LB who is equal parts pass rusher/drop in coverage.
LB (from my laymen eyes) easily had their best game in Manhattan. McLaughlin was filling and hitting with intent, Bacon got hands on balls and a lot of action, player of the week, and Vaughn looked sure.

Pretty sure K-State did this last year also. Heard they run off a lot of players and then go heavy into the portal. He's a good coach, might be part of his recruiting strategy.
Snyder was king of Juco in his day. If it works. Make it work.

I think K-State to some degree at least with QB's is all about Johnson.

Otherwise - its Manhattan, Kansas, not for veryone.
And Klieman's a helluva coach, but also very demanding. Again, not for everyone.

Also so far we've had 5 announce so I mean... we're not too far off the "average". Its just - sadly, the landscape anymore.

I don't play enough?
I'm not "valued" enough?
Bye

I think that Avery Johnson is a good player and will probably be on all-conference teams after next season. That said, it's tough to find someone in the portal that will come in knowing he's going to be a backup. I'm sure they have a TRFR coming in, but after that, it's probably walk-ons and maybe a JUCO. They are going to be completely dependent on Johnson staying healthy and the way they run the QB, that's kind of a scary proposition for them. It's going to be a huge dropoff after Johnson and if he gets hurt, they are screwed.

And they did that in the snow. KSU really struggled with angles and tackling, thus the big plays. Our guys did not, thus the longer drives, and held them to FGs twice.

The LBs were not great to start the year. But they did improve VASTLY as a group. That's how it goes with a bunch of freshmen being thrown into the fray.

We have a solid group of young LB's and do a great job with typical 4-3 defense skills- run support & coverage.

But ISU's 3-3-5 defense isn't getting enough QB pressure so feel we need to rush 4 more often with a bigger, speed guy to fill that hybrid LB/DE role.

Bacon might be able to develop into a solid pass rusher as well because he has a great motor.

With transfer portal losses, can you add new recruits or are you locked not transfers in. Still 25 or 30 new recruits a year?

You can replace portal losses with HS recruits or portal adds.

I believe the 25 scholarship limit per year is no longer a rule.

Big problem here would be fairness. If players get 50% of revenue, is that determined by each school, each conference, each sport? Does every player get the same? Do SEC players get more because of their TV deals? I haven't seen this lawsuit, so it would be interesting to know what it demands. If it's revenue of that player's school only, the Big East is over. Or are they Power 5? Actually it's now Power 4.

but it produced a bunch of interceptions this season. i dont know the exact numbers but it had to be the most of any CMC season or a close second.
That it did. I just got nervous in some games like K state, UT, and OU where there many plays where the qb had 6 seconds to throw. That’s not a winning formula most of the time. The only rush 3 tanked Auburn against Alabama.

That would kill all but the blue bloods. Would be about 40% of the budget.

I did a quick scan, but I think that's right, with 1.3 interceptions per game this season (9th in the country). I don't think any other season was over 1.

Also, maybe a bit surprisingly, the offense this season had the fewest turnovers per game in the Campbell era besides for the 2017 season (Kempt + 0 fumbles - I refuse to count the one that was called in the Liberty Bowl). This season the offense averaged 0.9 turnovers per game, which was the 13th fewest in the country.
