Plundering the Portal

I did a quick scan, but I think that's right, with 1.3 interceptions per game this season (9th in the country). I don't think any other season was over 1.

Also, maybe a bit surprisingly, the offense this season had the fewest turnovers per game in the Campbell era besides for the 2017 season (Kempt + 0 fumbles - I refuse to count the one that was called in the Liberty Bowl). This season the offense averaged 0.9 turnovers per game, which was the 13th fewest in the country.
For all the people chastizing Campbell for not always winning in the margins, this TO ratio is absolutely winning in the margins.

Again, Campbell says that is how ISU has to win. When ISU isn't winning in the margins, they aren't winning so he is right...

Vandy gets beat down on a weekly basis. That wouldn’t be nice at all. Was not all impressed with Nashville when I went there a few years ago. Overpriced and overcrowded. I didn’t really like country music to start with, but you get sick of it real quick there.
nashville sucks. I've been here since 2015. gets worse (somehow) every year.

"One lawsuit seeks to have Power Five schools pay players 50% of the average revenue from ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and television revenue."

Interesting. Not sure what the players' percentage cut should be, but this is the right answer moving forward and would blunt the impact of NIL as long as each player makes a reasonable base salary.

Schools can fire these employees then if they do not produce?

That was not a fumble. Refs really ****** that one up.

but it produced a bunch of interceptions this season. i dont know the exact numbers but it had to be the most of any CMC season or a close second.
Our defense was very good in most areas this year, especially if we look within the Big12. We had 2nd best offensive scoring defense against FBS opponents (behind Texas and just ahead of OU). Nationally, we ranked 29th in scoring defense out of 133 schools.

Our pass defense was pretty elite, but pass rush was a weak area:
  • Opponent Average Passer Rating: #13
  • Yards Per Rush Attempt: #37 (3.8 yards)
  • Yards Per Pass Attempt: #19 (6.4 yards)
  • 3rd Down Conversion Rate: #44 (36.42 percent)
  • Yards Per Completion: #53 (11.7 yards)
  • Turnovers Forced/Game: #42 (1.5, up from 1.2 in 2022)
  • Opponent Fumbles Lost/Game: #120 (0.3, down from 0.7 in 2022)
  • Opponent Interceptions/Game: #8 (1.3, up from 0.5
  • Sack Percentage: #122 (4.05 percent, down from 5.98 percent in 2022)

My problem is - quite simply - EVERYONE wins when they win the turnover margin , mostly. Like that's why its a thing. That's not an Iowa State thing. There are like 1-4 teams who can routinely lose the turnover margin and or field position and win.

And that might be high.

So its a non sensical statement. Everyone needs to win in the margins.
Yes, our margin of error is smaller but everyone has to win in the margins.

There is not one team out there who can just say " oh, well, we're going to suck in all the attention to detail areas" but we are going to win anyways.

USC tried doing that , 7-5.
Clemson wasn't great in the margins, 8-4.

Like everyone needs to do those things.

My issue is that that is not an Iowa State thing. Its an everywhere thing.

Hell, why does Iowa win? They win the damn margins. But yes, when he says that my BP goes up because everyone has to do that.

Its one thing to say we have a smaller margin for error, yes, we do. But to say " win in the margins" everyone has to.

Thats like me saying the world is round.
The sun is hot.
I breathe oxygen.

Its a true statement.
But its a statement that is true for everyone outside of when Georgia is playing Elon. And even then... App State versus Michigan anyone?

That'd be like Heacock saying to win at Iowa State we have to stop the run. I mean, yes, true. Certainly.

But kinda important to stop the run everywhere if you want to win.

So its a true statement when he says it. But its not an Iowa State truth. Its a global football truth

100 people move here every day and have been for the past 5+ years. There is no reliable public transit which forces people to drive everywhere or spend $25-40 roundtrip on ubers. businesses aren't required to have enough parking spaces for their customers.

What he is saying is that ISU's margins are narrower than a lot of other teams. Remember the Nebraska turnover game? Nebraska turned the ball over 8 times to Iowa state and they were still just a field goal from winning it. Some teams have a larger margin for error than other teams so Matt preaches attention to detail so they can win in their narrower margins.

I confess, this is just a post so I can post this:
