Phillip Fulmer interested per Cotlar

If he is really interested I am sure JP already knew about it, and unfortunately the name getting out will not excite JP very much in his search. I like the idea of getting 8-10+ years out of Fulmer with a good OC or DC to take over when he retires!

Somebody's got ot bring this up. After coaching at the highest levels in the SEC, i.e. spending a # of years as a perennial national title contender, would we be an immediate stepping-stone sort of job for him while he waits for a big-name school's job to open up?

If he comes here and wins - I couldn't care less. And I said the same thing in response to the same questions about Chizik.

Re: Who is he thinking of?

I think pay should be more creative. We should give a good candidate a nice base...say 1.2 mill. Then, you put in the contract some MAJOR incentives for winning x number of games, winning a bowl game, winning the big xii north, big xii championship etc.... This could be structured so that if certain things do happen that with the incentives he is one of the highest paid coaches in the nation. Lets say he wins the xii north and 10 games. Maybe the new coach makes 2.5 mill. Or a Big Xii championship...he makes 3 mill.

Why not put in some huge incentives because if someone is winning 10 games a year at ISU a) they deserve to be paid big time and b) the fans will be opening their wallets and selling out the stadium.

Aside from that, he may have made 2.5 mil but whats he slated to make next year. Oh, wait, HE DOESNT HAVE A JOB!

No, after many years at UT, he's not looking to move his family from town to town, why would he. He's set up enough that'd he can retire anytime he likes. It would be a challenge that could prove his coaching legacy making ISU a perrenial winner would cement him as a HOF coach. Summer in Tennessee while recruiting.

If he was 45, I'd agree. At 58, perhaps he'd be less likely to fly off to another job...

I tell you what, I spent years haiting Fulmer as a Gator fan, but I can't deny, the guy is a damn good coach. Not only that, he has been in the game a long time. I have no doubt he could assemble a top flight staff in no time. He is one of the few SEC coaches that really reaches out Nationally in recruiting, grabbing kids from Texas and California as well as the traditional SEC states. Plus, like alot of people want here, he runs a run first offense with multiple running backs... I would REALLY like this move..

Johnny Majors tie?
I wouldn't doubt at all if this has something to do with it...

I wouldn't get too worked up at anything Cotler says

or M&M for that matter
One thing about Cotlar is he NEVER puts his neck out there. He wouldn't say it if he didnt really beleive it.

So he would have to give up 6 million over 4 years to do nothing to come coach at ISU?
He would get that money if he coaches or not... I think we could get him for $1.5

I have no idea if Fulmer would come to ISU or not, but if he did, it would be a Johnny Orr type of hire that was discussed earlier this week.

This type of story kills me because anyone else we get at this point will look like a joke compared to this guy.

Didn't someone say on this board that Deace was on the radio talking about Phillip Fulmer and ISU?

This would be an awesome hire!

He's getting like $6 million from UT, so perhaps he be willing to coach for a $1 million / year and then we could make more money available for the assistant coaching staff so he can bring in some top assistants.

We were 3rd in assistant pay when ***** was hired, however, I imagine we've already slipped.

This could get very exciting!
