Phillip Fulmer interested per Cotlar

Re: Phillip Fulmer

I am not real interested in Fulmer, his team has been in a decline for the last couple of years. I want someone who will be jacked up to be here and bring enthusiasm to the players and the fan base because I think with the right hire we could be a good team next season.

Re: Phillip Fulmer

I just heard this on his show too. We don't know anything else other than he's interested but my goodness this would be a major get.

Really? He just took UT with all the built in advantages it has and ran it into the ground. My uncle was an all-american at UT and still has ties to the school...let's say he's not a huge fan of PF.

:biglaugh: You are nuts...

Probably holding out for Ditka right??

Re: Phillip Fulmer

How can you not be excited about the idea of Fulmer. Look at the recruiting edge we would have working in the South. You can bet that the commits we have now will definitely stay on board and even some of the guys on the fence would fall in our direction. I think this would be a solid get. Great history of being loyal to his program. If he really wants it (which I question), than the job just has to be his. No questions about it.

Re: Phillip Fulmer

I don't think he really "ran it into the ground". He won a national championship and had two "bad" seasons in which he still either made a bowl or had all-american type players on his team...that's not too "bad" in the books of ISU...

Re: Who is he thinking of?

Just did a little checking. Fulmer is younger than I thought - 58. For some reason I would have guessed he was in his mid-60's. He did spend 5 years at Wichita State in the 70's so he would have a little experience in Big XII country.

He can definately coach and he is a big name that would get some attention. I would think all of our young Florida and Texas kids would be somewhat excited about Phil being the coach, He was very classy on his way out at Tennessee from what I have read.

I would be very happy with him. It seems like the quality of candidates is going up each day. Hopefully some of these guys are legitimately interested.

Re: Phillip Fulmer

Yeah, that national title he won with them really ran them into the ground. What was his career record there? And even this season, it isn't like they were bad, the SEC is just a bit different. We could only hope someone would run us into the ground like that.

Re: Who is he thinking of?

He made $ 2.4 million last year. I doubt he will take cybookie credits.

I think pay should be more creative. We should give a good candidate a nice base...say 1.2 mill. Then, you put in the contract some MAJOR incentives for winning x number of games, winning a bowl game, winning the big xii north, big xii championship etc.... This could be structured so that if certain things do happen that with the incentives he is one of the highest paid coaches in the nation. Lets say he wins the xii north and 10 games. Maybe the new coach makes 2.5 mill. Or a Big Xii championship...he makes 3 mill.

Why not put in some huge incentives because if someone is winning 10 games a year at ISU a) they deserve to be paid big time and b) the fans will be opening their wallets and selling out the stadium.

"At 12:41 a.m. Sunday, Fulmer is officially unemployed. He has coached 204 games, won 75 percent of them and had 1,275 players wear Tennessee orange. "

He could survive at ISU doing that for whenever he wants to retire.

If I read correctly it sounds like Tennessee is going to pay him 6 million to not coach for the next 4 years.

In another article, it notes he was offered an administrative position at TN. He accepted - but didn't he later retract on that?
